Wondering if any of you have rented an RV for a long trip???

If so, did you have young children? How did they do? Would you do it again? Is it worth the money?

What can I do next?

Just wanted to give you a heads up- there is a local couple that rents RV's, it's called "RVing 2 go" and they have had several claims against them through the BBB, just a warning if you do decide to rent.

We rented one and drove from Louisiana to Brandson. I at the time had two teen girls. It was great most of the time one of the girls always made us wait for 2 hours while she did her hair but she had matured and the girls went to the public shower and my hubby and I showered in the RV and we are all ready at the same time. I loved that trip. My son was not there and he always fought with my ex's daughter. So it was more fun with just the girls. Now days gas is so expensive so I am not sure it I would do it because of that. G. W

my parents owned an RV when I was a kid and we traveled everywhere, it was great, now my parents are retired and have taken my kids (and us) with them on a few trips, the kids love it!!! (they were 2-6-7 yrs old when we started traveling with them, now they are 4-8-9 YO) if you can do it ,I think that it is well worth it! no mater where you go, it is a great time with family, some of my best family memories are from trips like that! you do have to be oraganized, really know your RV, and you do have to plan for your trip, and not be in a hurry, more of a stop and smell the roses kind of trip.

enjoy!

I've never rented an RV. I sold RV's for about 10 years, altho I've been out of the business for quite a few years. I will tell you, an RV is a really great way to travel with kids. They can move around a little, so they may not be as restless and cranky as when confined to one spot for hours on end. You can put them down for a nap, instead of them having to sleep sitting up. It's easier to do a variety of activities, ie: playing games, drawing, reading. No aggravating 'potty stops'.....! Snacks and drinks are right there in the fridge.

As far as cost effective....I don't really know. As opposed to staying in hotels along the way, it may come out around the same. You could do a little research online, check hotel prices in the areas where you plan to stop, and your destination area. Then compare the costs with renting. One issue you don't want to forget, is most likely, unless you usually drive a hummer or some other real gas hog, there will be a big difference in what you're spending for gasoline along the way. They may have improved the mileage somewhat on the newer models....but most Class A or mini-homes were getting around 8-10 mpg back when I was in the biz. Also, when making the price comparison, don't forget to factor in the price of campgrounds when you stop for the night. A google search will also find info on campground prices. Also, by cooking some or all of your meals in the motorhome, you can save a LOT of money on restaraunts...!!!!

Hope this helps.
