Hi ladies, I want to know if anyone had success with the lapband surgery and what side effects if any did you experience. Do anyone have a good dr that did their surgery that they would like to recommend. T.I.A

I have not had the lapband surgery, but I have found something that is helping me lose the weight. They are called Attain bars and shakes. They have a natural crave blocker that causes you to become full faster, and then it also releases a hormone into the body that tells your brain that there is no need to munch! It really is working for me and is much more economical than surgery. If you would like to learn more let me know. One of the bars taste just like a Pay Day bar.

As medical field employee, I can tell you the lapband is great if you need to lose 50 lbs, or so... any more than that, it is not as effective. I had the stomach stapling and lapband (both reversible) done about 5 years ago. I have lost 130 lbs and have about 50 more to go before Im content. I am alot more active, my self-confidence is through the roof, and I feel wonderful! Depending on where you are, I can give you the name of several physicians that do both procedures and would be willing to discuss which would be best suited for your needs. Good luck!

One of my closest friends had the lapband surgery done about a year ago, and so far, she has lost about 115 pounds. Her goal is to lose about 150 or so. She has had to change her eating and drinking habits quite a bit, but they've been reasonable changes. She doesn't eat bread much anymore, and she also doesn't drink carbonated drinks anymore either b/c of how it affects the banded stomach. She also eats small portions at a time and taker her time while eating them. For her, it has been a good experience with no adverse side affects. She gets her band filled when she feels like she's able to eat more than she should at meals, and she has been more active to help with the weight loss. Her whole family has gastric bypass years ago (except for her), and they eventually gained all their weight back because they weren't consistent with maintaining the lifestyle necessary to keep the weight off. I don't recall which bariatric center she used, but it was probably one in Plano, Texas. She had her surgery at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and had a wonderful experience there, as well.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi Z.! I had weight loss surgery almost 6 years ago now. I lost 160 pounds and had twins 6 months ago and am working on getting the last 15 lbs off...I work for a facility that does lap bands, gastric bypass, and gastric sleeve. I would really recommend Dr. Davidson in Dallas. You get a VERY informative seminar and then you get to meet with him and the nurse practitioner. They give you all the information about all the procedures and let you decide based on the information! The other good thing about Dr. Davidson's office is they do ALL of the insurance leg-work for you!! I could go on and on about the successes I have seen, but I would recommend that you check out a very informative website: www.obesityhelp.com. There are comments about the surgeries, the surgeons, everything you could imagine! I hope this helps and please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to tell you my personal experience. Good Luck!!

I have not had lapband, but my mother and three friends have/are about to have the surgery. My mother has lost a significant amount of weight, has decreased her blood pressure medication and it is helping with her diabetes management as well. She has issues on occasion where she is unable to eat due to the band or it comes back up, but no other discomfort. One friend that underwent the surgery lost 100+ pounds was able to quit the majority of his medications and is LOVING his new life. I never once heard of any complications from him except that after a fill he would not be able to eat much. Another friend of mine just had it done and he has not felt any discomfort or had any issues with eating. Last I heard he had not had another fill, but was still losing weight. My last friend will be undergoing the surgery next month. She is looking to lose 100+ pounds and hopefully positively impact her use of medications to control obesity induced conditions. I know that my three friends are using the same doctor (can't remember his name), but that it is different from my mother's doctor. If you are intersted in either doctor's name, please feel free to contact me.
