I absolutely LOVE this school. My daughter has been going to the one in Arlington for over a year now and can swim on her own and she will be 3 in a few weeks. She has always loved this school. I was sad to see that they were closing the Arlington location down. The Southlake location may be the closest one to Arlington. I highly recommend this school. They are great with the kids and have a great program

My daughter now 4 and her friend who is currently 3 took lessons from them over the summer. It's amazing that both of them can hold their breath for over 4 seconds and swim from one side of the pool to the other! I was impressed! The Arlington location is closing so we went to the Colleyville location. Miss Elizabeth was their teacher. I was really glad she took the lessons. I feel more comfortable now with her swimming! Expensive mind you.....but I felt it was worth it!

I have experience two ways with Emler. I worked there one summer when I was in college and my 3 year old took lessons this summer. Depsite the earlier post that said they don't teach a child what to do when they are tired (and implied they don't teach life-saving skills, my experiences contradict that. By the third lesson, my daughter had learned to climb out of the side of the pool without assistance. I was floored! They teach rollover breathing to the toddlers (they roll to their back and float a while before rolling back in to swim). Although they are somewhat pricey, I don't think you can beat their curriculum. Jan Emler runs a fantastic school. My daughter is swimming so well now, I may not need to put her in swim lessons again! I highly recommend them!

My daughter who is 3 1/2 has been taking lessons for 4 sessions now. I love the instructors and the program. They are very positive and use only positive reinforcement and fun ways to teach. We live in Arlington and used to go to the Arlington/Pantego location until it closed. I was hesitant to sign up for lessons in Colleyville because of the distance/gas prices. But, my daughter really got the hang of it this summer and I just felt like I needed to continue w/them and not switch to some other program. Therefore, I did sign her up for lessons again this fall in Colleyville and I couldn't be happier. AND-the drive is not bad at all since it is pretty much straight up 360 for me.

I would highly recommend them, but just know that they are not the same price as the Y. There session though for the fall is 19 weeks and they don't take off every holiday (i.e. my daughter has lessons on Mondays and we had a lesson on Labor Day this week).

We love Emler. I started my son in swim classes at the Y. We had a very bad experience. It got to the point where my son wouldn't go in the water. Emler changed all of that. My 5 year old can now swim over 20 ft on his own. I owe it all to Patrick at Emler!! We are hoping they find a new location soon in Arlington!

Hello-

My 1yr old son is currently in ISR lessons. They are teaching him water rescue skills. These lessons are more life saving than anything else. At the same time I am also in training to become an ISR instructor in the Arlington/Mansfield area. The age range for our students are 6months to 6yrs old. Two of the kids I am training now are 2yrs old and 4yrs old who are brothers and they attended Emler. The mom brought them to us after they attended Emler because they taught the boys to tread water and swim certain distances. However, they didn't teach the boys what to do when they get tired of swimming are not at the edge of the pool. The oldest is a good swimmer but he gets tired. Now as a result, we are teaching him to float on his back and get his air so he can continue swimming after he has rested a bit. He starts to panic when he gets tired and if not appropriately trained he could drown. The youngest can swim about 3-4ft and he gets tired. We are teaching him to float on his back as well so he can rest, flip over and continue swimming till he reaches the edge. Your son is older so maybe they will teach him some more progressed techniques for his age but I would definitely ask them before committing to anything.

I, myself have not worked first-hand with this school but all I know is two kids who did attend in length are now in ISR for additional training because their parents did not feel they were taught the proper skills to save themselves.

Oh my goodness - it's awesome! Super nice people, good facilities, worth the drive to Colleyville. My son (2 1/2) took the mommy & me over the summer and now is in the advanced aqua tots. Totally loves it! Good luck!

I started my son, Austin, at 8 months old for their summer program. I was thrilled with the lessons because they were fun and he learned to, a) not be afraid of the water, b) start learning to float on his back and c) start learning to climb out of the pool. I also think it was great that they teach the babies/children that if they fall in, to turn around and grab the wall (versus follow their instinct and swim/paddle forward to where they are looking, which would be to the opposite end of the pool, an unlikely ability). At the end of the summer he was 1 yr old and I realized that he would forget everything unless we continued the lessons, which we did. So, this is going to be an ongoing expense if you intend to start it, which you need to consider.

We took a break from the classes at the new year (Jan 08) when he was 2 and a half. It was a little tough getting Austin to swim on his own and put his head under the water at the beginning of the summer, but after a couple of weeks he was doing great. His breath control is back and he will even jump off a diving board to my husband who waits in the deep end for him. Unfortunately, he is now too afraid to float on his back and he still needs to learn more about swimming, what to do if he fell in, etc. I know this is a result of not having him continue the lessons, which has me a little sad.

I plan to save my money and put BOTH my boys in the classes as their Christmas presents this year. That will help to have them ready for summer of 09.

I have loved EVERY class, every instructor and every session we've participated in. If it weren't for the expense, it would be a no-brainer for me to have them enrolled permanently.

My oldest (10 yrs. old) is an incredible swimmer, and I credit Emler for that. My youngest (4 yrs. old) is learning to swim and can swim across the pool if he has to, but his form isn't very good yet. He took lessons last Fall at Emler, and will take them again next Spring. We love Emler!

Hi C. - my kids are now 13 & 10. We attended Emler in Arlington when they were 2 and 3, and have even had Birthday parties there. They are great. Very helpful, very strong and confident. I can't say enought good things about them - good luck.
