Has Anyone Taken Little Ones to "Wings over Houston" Airshow?

Hi Ladies,

My husband will be taking my 7 year old to the airshow in a couple of weeks, along with my husbands father. I just assumed that they would also be taking my 2 yr. 9 mos. old too, since he loves to go to the airport by our house. I will be staying home with a 13 month old. My husband said that he wasn't going to take our 2 year old. We discussed it and he still doesn't really want to take him, but I feel that he would be mesmerized by the planes and it wouldn't be fair to not take him.

Have any of you been with little ones...and how was it? Would you recommend that he stay home with me...is it too overwhelming? He's a pretty rough and tough little guy and other than the noise, which I plan on getting earplugs for, I think that he would enjoy it. I think that honestly it's that hubby doesn't want the extra work.

Any experiences you've had would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Last year we took our 4 year old and 18 month old sons, and they both absolutely loved it! We used a double stroller, since there's alot of walking around and then sitting in chairs. I'm not sure exactly what the ear protection they wore is called, but they look like huge ear muffs. It is like what you see people wearing at a gun range or the airfield ground workers wearing. We thought ear plugs would get pulled out and lost too easily. We wore ear plugs ourselves. They both had a fabulous time, and are looking forward to going again this year.

It wouldn't be fair to NOT take him?? Huh?? It sounds like a nice activity for the oldest one to have some individual time with daddy, plus it's safer if just one child is with dad.

i have been to the airshow several times but not with little ones. Unless your 2 yr old is content to be in a stroller for long periods of time - i suggest he stay home so that the 7 yr old can have a male bonding with dad.
Yes there are airplanes - but the shows are very high in the sky - you have to know where to look.
There are some planes you can tour in and out of - but they are WWII aircraft - and not easily maneuvered.
For your husband and 7 yr old to enjoy the show - personally i agree - the little one needs to stay home. If your husband had to deal with the stroller - basically - he and your other son would probably end up skipping half of the exhibits because it would be difficult to maneuver a little one in/out of a stroller, etc.
If you are really wanting to do the activities that are there - i think a child needs to be at least 4 1/2 yrs to enjoy it and understand what is going on.
My husband goes every year and participates with the Commemerative Air Force. I go too when I can.

I think it would be a great experience for the whole family, but understand you have two little ones too small to go. Why don't you find out gently what your husband's concerns are? Perhaps its as you suspect or he wants to have some alone time with the 7 year old. Sometimes the oldest have to give up some time and have the youngest tag along. If you make it a family event, you can perhaps have someone watch your youngest ones. I agree about the ear protection, that is the scariest part.

I take my boys every starting at 2 because that is the age that the planes aww them. the only thing to worry about is a change of clothes and ear plugs. the best thing is to see their dr about childrens ear plug if not at least buy small ones before you go because they only have one size at the show. I will be there with my 3year old and my 12 year old near the military reenactor camp cause my husband participates in the show.I would bring a small wagon instead of a stroller they have more fun and it's easier to carry the chairs to. You can order tickets online for cheaper rates at www.wingsoverhouston.com this makes it easier to get in you don't have to wait in the long lines. Any other questions or concerns on the airshow ____@____.com or ###-###-####

I have been and the 2 year old will like it for about an hour or so and then after that get board. It gets hot and the planes are LOUD. The line are long to get onto planes to see. The 2 year old may not last the whole time that they would. I would wait until they are a little older. They do a part where you have to sit in chairs and listen to the speakers talk about thier planes and then you watch them take off and fly...but it takes a while in between each take off and landing.
