Has anyone taken Fortamet(Metformin)for PCOS and rather than experience the diarrhea the first few days and then see weightloss occur, you experienced ongoing constipation and not weight loss, but gain? Instead of not being hungry and having appetitie control, I feel hypoglymic and hungry all the time. Wondering if I'm the only one reacting to this drug this way.

Fortunately, I have my two babies, but I CAN NOT get the weight off from my pregnancies. I have PCOS and so my obgyn put me on Metformin and I gained 10 lbs. I have stopped taking it and I am still up. I thought I was the only one that didn't lose weight on Metformin. From what I have heard it is this miracle pill that helps the weight melt off and helps with cramping during periods. That is def not the case with me! I am so frustrated with the weight!!! I am a vegetarian, eat healthy and exercise.

I have heard that Metformin helped others to get pregnant. I got pregnant because I was taking birth control to regulate my period and the first month I went off of it, I got pregnant. I miscarried and then got pregnant immediately after the miscarriage.

I hope you find something that works for you! I wish you the best.

Oh, I have heard great things about acupuncture and fertility issues.

I take Metformin (Glucophage) and it did cause terrible stomach aches and diarrhea, but when I had the doctor change it to ER (Extended-release), it improved a lot! Now my body is used-to it and I have no adverse side effects at all. Good luck!

Hey C.!

I have PCOS... or I should say I HAD PCOS. I had been told by specialists at USC medical center that I would NEVER have children.. never ever ever and that even though I had eggs I could not and would not ovulate.

Well my son is now 20 months old! I made a lot of changes in my life and none of them included any form of drugs... I was on the Pill for a little while, until I lost my gallbladder to it (gallbladder disease is one of the glorious side effects). Anyways... after that I decided to make some necessary changes in my life and I also started studying nutrition. I lost a ton of weight (105 pounds pre-pregnancy) and then found myself pregnant. At that point I was still believing the doctors that it would never happen... silly me!

Well when I was having all my fun tests I had the doctor check my ovaries... cleared! He was a dumbfounded as I was! I only have one remaining side effect that must be lasered off (which right now I can't afford)

check out my website and see if what i offer is something you are interested in.

My husband takes metformin for diabetes. It is known to inhibit weight loss, which may explain weight gain. I don't really know why you are taking it, but it won't help anyone lose weight.

I have taken metformin on and off and it makes me feel ill. I also have PCOS and could not conceive on my own- after 1 year of trying. I only took the metformin when I was stimulating for my IVF cycles to give me better egg quality and as soon as I had my IVF I stopped cuz it made me feel so icky.
PCOS is very hard miserable disease when you are trying to conceive. I know with my severity, I could only have a baby through IVF. If you decide to go the IVF route, let me know and I can give you my docs info. He has a lot of experience with PCOS and infertility. Good luck.

I did IVF w/ both of my children. My Dr had me take this w/both cycles. I had upset stomachs all the time w/metformin:( But they are having good results w/it. Good luck w/ getting pregnant. I have an awesome fertility Dr. Dr Potter at Huntington Reproductive(laguna/fullerton). Everyone that I've sent to him has children:) Hang in there. J.
