Hi,
Has Anyone Known Baby Magic Hair & Body Wash to Cause a Skin Rash? My husband mistakenly picked up the wrong 'wash' at the store the other day. I was uncertain to use it (since it was different than what we usually use) but after reading the bottle thought we could give it a try to avoid returning it/exchanging it. Two days later my infant is covered in a pumpy rash. I need to pick up the correct stuff today...but I was wondering if anyone has known this to happen...I could only guess the wash was the cause. Thanks :o)

What can I do next?

One of my children also had reactions to "baby" lotions and wash!! We had to switch to lotions and wash that had were "fragrance free." We could still use washes in the baby aisle but, had to get the plain ones. We have also used Aquaphor and Lubriderm lotions to help his skin.

Angela,
Yes. Anything with fragrance in it irritates the skin of everyone in our house. When our first son was born, he would get rashes from everything, including baby products, especially soaps, wipes, lotions, laundry soap, etc..

We went with ivory soap and I used plain Aloe on his skin.

If you have great luck with a certain product, don't stop using it.

Best of luck.

Yes! My son was actually allergic to hypoallergenic, natural soap powder in the laundry even after cutting it to thirds and doing a double rinse. So yes kids can react to soap even ones they say they wont react to. So
I agree with these other ladies go back to what worked.

Yes. My son had a rash from that brand as well. I actually ended up using Dove bar soap and it works great, head to toe. No need to spend extra on liquid baby washes unless you want to. Dove makes a fragrance and fragrance free. Nearly all baby products are unnecessary and overpriced. Sometimes they are fun though! :O)

How old is your baby? We had the same reaction to Baby Magic! But I know it was because my son is allergic to dairy. Right on the bottle it is called a Milk Bath and there is a milk protein in the ingredients. We stopped using it.

You may not know if your son has allergies yet if he is still breastfed and not eating food. Diary is a common one. I hear most kids outgrow it by age 3. We didn't know until 9mos when my friend was feeding her son yogurt and also fed my son. He broke out in a rash like hives all over his chin and around his mouth. After the bath, the same rash was on his back and stomach. It happened again another time with 1 bite and we knew. I was already not a big dairy eater/drinker so I just cut all dairy out of my diet (still nursing) and made sure I read all packages. Nonfat dry milk is in so many things! You get used to looking for it. He drinks soy or rice milk.

You could have him tested, or you could wait until he is eating solid foods to see what happens when he gets dairy. If he is allergic to dairy, plan to breastfeed longer to make sure he gets what he needs from your milk supply. My son is now 4 and starting to be able to tolerate some things that have less than 2% of a milk protein ingredient (it is in almost everything, btw!). He also knows he is allergic to dairy and will not eat anything he thinks has dairy in it! He even knows milk chocolate has milk in it and will give him a tummy ache.

You could take the body wash back, or give it to a friend!

Yes, in fact that exact brand was a problem for us with our younger son. The Aveeno and Johnson brands were fine, but Baby Magic would give him a light bumpy rash.

It is quite possible that he is allergic to it. Bumps sounds like hives. Cortisone cream is great for hives.

It is also possible that he's having an allergic reaction to something else that is coincidental to the Baby Wash. But if you've not exposed him to anything else new to him, I'd say it's the Baby wash.

Depending where you purchased the Baby wash you may still be able to return it by saying that your baby broke out in bumps/rash.
