Has Anyone Ever Had This or Know of a Similar Situation

I have a nodule/cyst in the middle of my throat that is about 1/2 an inch in diameter and is easily moveable if touched. It has been there since atleast 2000 and has given me no problems. My ob suggested I go to a endocrinologist to get a total thyroid work up (because of the location. But my bloodwork with her came back fine. She thinks it's probably a benign cyst that might need to be drained. Has anyone heard of this? I keep thinking the worst like cancer or something, but wouldn't I have already felt effects of something if it were that serious???? My appointment is march 26, but I am worrying myself to death. Any advice is greatly appreciated

So What Happened?

Well I had the ultrasound and it showed not just one nodule but 3 so I was scheduled to do a biopsy because they were all bigger than 1 cm. The biospy came back with no malignancy. The only thing now they have to determine whether I have hyperthyroidism or Graves Disease. Not a huge deal, but atleast I don't have cancer

My aunt used to get these same knots years ago. She had like 2 or 3 that she had to have drained or removed. None were cancerous. Just stop worrying.

I have a cyst (about the size of a large marble) in the middle/top of my back and have had it since I was about 16... I've let 3 different doctors look at it and they've all shared the opinion that it is sebacious and harmless... I've been advised to go immediately if it ever becomes itchy, painful, or changes color (of course turning my head completely around to inspect it's color has proven to be a difficult task! :oD) The point is that benign and harmless cysts occur all of the time- the only reason to have the removed is if they are bothersome to you... if it's an eyesore than you may want to see about having it drained or removed. All the best but I'm sure you have little to worry about!

I have some type of "bump" on the left side of my neck, not far from underneath my jaw. I saw an ENT about it, and she did a needle biopsy on it, but didn't find anything wrong with it. It doesn't bother me too much, except that I know I have an abnormal bump there. I've had thyroid tests done, and I've even had an ultrasound to check for a goiter, but everything is normal. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

My father found something similar in his throat, but he was coughing up blood and it actually was malignant. I would get it checked asap, better safe than sorry.

When I was a teenager I had something similar to that, I had one big cyst (about the size of a golf ball) in the right side of my neck accompanied by several smaller ones in the left side. Only mine were very painful, the right side of my head was inflamed and sensitive to touch. I went to the doctor and he said the cysts were a bacterial infection. He put me on antibiotics and they went away in a few days. I still get small ones sometimes but they're usually gone in a few days. Try not to worry too much, you'll be fine. Write back and let us know how you're doing!

My husband had something similar on the side of his neck when he was a child. They just drained it and that was all. Every one in a while it seems to get kind of swollen and sore again, but just goes away and has never caused any problems.

I had one on my wrist. It was called a ganglean cyst. It caused some pain but went away on it's own. They are fluid filled sacs, not malignant or dangerous, just uncomfortable. My mother-in-law has them on her throat and chest and says the same. Get it checked but don't stress about it too much until then.

My cousin (age 22) has the same thing. Hers looks like an Adam's Apple. They tried to drain it but whatever was in it was too thick. The biopsy showed a benign tumor/cyst. The doctor wasn't too worried about it and left the decision up to her, but she is having it removed on the 28th before it does give her problems. I'm sure everything is fine and from reading other responses, it sounds pretty common. But be sure to write down any questions you may have so you can ask your doctor.

Good luck!

I actually have a friend who about 5-6 years ago the same thing happened to. Her ob found a nodule and had it removed, it did turn out to be cancer. So you should have it removed/drained, but be aware that it may not be. But you won't know if you don't have it checked. Also thyroid cancer is one of the slowest growing cancers, so if it turns out to be then it is one the most treatable forms of cancer. My friend has two children and she was very worried to. But they treated it and she hasn't had any relapses since. So good luck to you, try to be positive, I know the worrying is hard but you are doing the right thing.

My very close friend had an issue similar to this. Her nodule/cyst was on the side of her throat under her ear. She went through lab work and nothing ever came back. Her doctor suspected that it was a benign cyst in her lymph node. They went ahead and removed the node and biopsied it. She felt much better having it removed and the results came back negative for cancer. Try not to get too worked up about it...just voice ALL of your concerns to your physician at your appointment. It might help to make a list of questions/concerns over the weekend so that you don't forget anything when you get there on March 26. Good Luck!!!

My husband had something like this on his neck when he was a kid. I just see the scar and it wasn't that big of a deal he said. They just drained it and it went away. I know it is a scary thought, but it should be over quickly and shouldn't be to painful. He said it went away pretty quickly and it you actually wouldn't think that something was there you would just think it was a blemish on his skin.

Usually, when a cyst moves, it's benign. When it's fixed is when we worry. If you can move it around, and it's not bothering you and your lymph nodes (under your chin and in front of your ears) aren't swollen, then I wouldn't worry. Fixed, painful lumps along with swollen lymph nodes are more likely to indicate cancer.

K.,

I have had so many lumps and bumps all over my body. None of them have been cancer. I had lumps removed from my breast and my groin (between my leg and tummy). I also have lumps in my abdomen area and neck area.

Don't let yourself get too worried. You don't know anything yet. Especially since she believes it is benign. Take a deep breath, let the worry go. It can not help you in any way...I am a recovering worryholic...lol...and it never helped me either!

Praying for you!
