I am looking into going to Myrtle Beach this summer. Everything I have found online.. looks wonderful. I would love to hear about someone's personal experience.. did you enjoy it? were the beaches nice? any recommendations of activities I have a 1 year old (almost) and a 10 year old? any good places to eat or stay? Did you fly into Raleigh and drive? or what airline did you use that flew direct? Thanks so much for your help.

I went to college in South Carolina. I remember that North Litchfield Beach was a very nice, family-friendly beach. There were some great beach houses right on and within walking distance of the beach. It was a bit away from the commotion but not so far that a drive into Myrtle Beach was a pain. We always drove. Then again, it only took us about 2 1/2 hours to get to North Litchfield Beach from where I went to college. Have fun!

My husband went when he was in the Navy and loved it so much he still talks about it. He said that he can't give ideas for places for kids but there is a place called The Oasis on the beach that is very nice to stay at. The beaches are wonderful especially Myrtle Beach and down by the riverwalk is nice and safe. Ron John's Surf Shop is great for swimwear, etc. They mainly ate at fast food joints since him and his buddies were on military pay.

My husband and I drove there though Tennesee and North Caroline several yrs ago. It was a noce town, but VERY driven towards the golf community. There are a TON of golf courses and there are many men that come there with out there families for golfing. Because of this there were MANY "mens clubs", just about everywhere. We enjoyed the beach, but if your used to the gulf coast, Myrtle Beach can't compare.

I went to Myrtle Beach when I was 13 (14 years ago) and loved it. We drove there from my aunt's house in Charlotte. The beaches were beautiful - lots of seashells to collect, which was my favorite part. I don't know the name of the hotel we stayed in but it was very nice (screen porch right off the ocean). My aunt & uncle now have a condo in Myrtle Beach, but I haven't been there yet. They love vacationing there. I don't remember much else about the trip and I'm sure a lot has changed in the last 14 years. (other than the beach, of course) :)

FYI - now that I think about it, I think we actually stayed in Litchfield Beach proper, but visited Myrtle Beach. Either way, both were great.

Well i went for my 30th bday last year and stayed with a fren of mine in Charleston, SC. I stayed at the beach, i did see a wonderful amusement park there that would be great for the kids, don't remember the name of it though. We went to visit "the Bullet" also, we ate at a resturant called S.N.O.B., it was a seafood resturant. Great for families, couples, etc.

Great beach. I grew up in SC and this was the beach we went to every summer. Lots to do for the kids. (A few years have passed since I've been, so sorry, I don't remember specific names of places to recommend.) I hear it's a bit more crowded and "touristy" than it once was, but that's something I can't say from my own experiences there. It's known for being family-friendly.
