I asked my wife what she would like for mother's day and what she would like for dinner. I still don't know what present she would like except to spend the day with her kids. So to do that I rented a horse drawn carriage so six of us could do an hour of sight seeing among the hills and vineyards of the wine country around Temecula, CA. Then we are going out to dinner together. So she will have two of our kids and their spouses with us.

She wants orange chicken so I went out today and bought what I needed so I can cook orange chicken. We'll be together for Mother's day dinner.

Dear Mom-pedia moms, What would you like to have for dinner?
What are you going to do for mother's day?

And once again, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the moms from one of the dads here on mamapedia.

What can I do next?

We are going to the Zoo and will just order pizza. Hubby wanted to make me pizza on the grill, but I don't want my mom, my brother, etc. all here.

In an ideal world, i would just spend the day with my familiy, no mother, brother, etc. just hubby and the kids. This would greatly upset my mom, though, and since it's mother's day......

Thank you!

Ya know, reading this brought tears to my eyes. And I had to pause and stop a moment.
Because... it was how my late Dad was.
He would have done, what you are doing, for your Wife and family.
I am speechless.

8kidsdad - you're one of the good ones. I'm sure your wife knows how lucky she is to have such a caring husband.

As for me, I'd like crusty bread with olive oil to dip it in, followed by a really amazing salad and cheese plate. Then a brownie sundae for dessert. Sadly, I'll be traveling for work all day on Sunday so no celebration or fancy dinner for me. Plus, my kids are a bit young to cook!

AAAAAAWWWWW, B.!! Thank you!!!

For Mother's Day? We USED to go to the National Mall for Military Appreciation - get to see all the branches of the armed services - hop on helicopters - including Air Force 1 helicopter! And so much more...but 0bama's lack of having a Federal Budget has had that canceled for the last 3 years....

So we might go paint balling....

For dinner? Orange Chicken sounds GREAT!! What time can I show up? LOL!! Any way - we typically order Chinese food or my men cook me a steak, baked potato and fix a salad...

Hope you enjoy your day with your wife and kids!! LOVE the idea of the horse drawn carriage through the hills of Temecula!!!!

My son & I are headed to the circus! Technically its dinner-circus. We get to get all dolled up (including a feather boa!), and go to one of our favorite treats. The tag line for this place is "Love! Chaos! Dinner!" and its absolutely spectacular. A good friend of mine works there, and she got my son comp tickets for my birthday (which is the same weekend) in exchange for some work he did for her.

My son has a long history of picking out a perfume for me for Mother's Day. He's asthmatic, so the ones that don't trigger breathing difficulties for him tend to be very expensive (Prada, Bvlgari, etc. Upside, they do smell lovely). I talked with our local guy ahead of time this year, and he was sweet enough to get a bunch of glass bottle samples set aside to suggest to my son "How about an assortment this year?"

I dont celebrate mothers day in my house since my mom passed. I send cards to the mothers i know and thats about it. Im a proud single mom and my girls are 5 and 2. There is no reason for me to create extra work for myself in making something special for dinner or spending money I dont have. I would give anything to have a shower, bathroom break, dinner, or sleep uniterupted for mothers day. Thats not gonna happen, so it wil lbe another day like any other for me. I do think its sweet what you are doing for your wife. It sounds like it will be romantic and she will enjoy it!

Thanks for the good wishes and thanks for asking.

I asked for a transplanting spade for my Mother's Day gift, so I might get a little yardwork-sort-of-family-time in on that day. I love planting stuff with my son and husband has a deathwish toward the dandelion population in the yard, so it is actually fulfilling for him to weed the yard. Our cherry tree needs netting, too...

Mid-afternoon, I'm going out for a couple hours with a girlfriend. She's a mom, too, and due to her tight schedule, this is when we could find the time...

For dinner, who knows? I adore my guy, but he isn't much for cooking, so I'm thinking Thai food or sushi take out is in my Mother's Day future. :) I think it would be weird if the day were all about me, and we try to keep things low-key at our place... just how we roll...

Have fun with your family!

That sounds like a great day you have planned!

I have no idea what we're going to be doing. We had something unplanned and unwanted come up that effects that day so our plans had to change. There's a slim chance that we can still make part of our original plans work but we don't know for sure.
All I want for dinner is something I don't have to deal with and just eat ;)

Thank you for the greeting.

Hubby hasn't mentioned anything yet, but I bet it will be great. My children are grown and live in two different states. They usually remember to call mom during the day.

The wife needs to bottle you and put you away before the rest of us take you away.

Have a great day as well.

I know you have always been so thoughtful to your wife and kids, that's why you've been married so long! Congrats on your plans, sounds fun and I know you all will have a great time.

My kids will be at their dads for the weekend but he will drop them off at church so I have them the rest of the day. I think we will just go out to eat somewhere, nothing fancy since I don't like crowds and EVERYONE will probably be eating out after church. Maybe we'll catch a movie too if there is something out we all want to see. Hubby always gets me a nice piece of jewelry and flowers and the kids are older so they will probably make me a card or write something nice for me.

Awww....you are such a sweetheart:-) Your wife is one lucky lady:)

On top of Mother's Day, I have a very exciting and hectic week. I am remodeling my house and this weekend is my daughter's senior prom. This will definitely be a memorable week for me.

As far as dinner goes, we will definitely be eating out as I do not have time to cook with all the fun stuff going on:-)

I wish you and your wife a wonderful week.

PS Crazy me thinking kids should get along again, must've gotten into the wine again! Thanks for your post!

Thank you, sir!

This year we are lucky enough to have my older sister and her husband in town. It will be much needed to spend that day together, because we are attending a memorial for our brother who passed in March on Saturday. So spending some quality family time together will be great!

Everyone is coming to my house for breakfast. That's so my odler sister and her husband can get on the road back to SC and get home in time to prepare for work on Monday. I assume the rest of us will get together and do a BBQ later on Sunday. That's my guess - but I'm not sure.

A horse and carriage ride sounds fabulous!! Enjoy! Happy Mother's Day to your wife as well!

I asked my husband for season 1 of F.R.I.E.N.D.S on dvd. We (My aunts, mom, and I) have bets places on whether or not he'll get it for me. In the past 3 mother's days (When I was pregnant, when our son was about 6 months old, and when our son was a year and a half), he has yet to get me anything (And our son has also yet to get me anything). It's become a running "joke" in our family. Oh and yes, I always get him something on father's day and our son ALSO gets him something on father's day.

For dinner, we are going to my grandmother's house for our traditional mother's day celebration. I'm hoping for some yummy home cooked food, but I'm pretty sure we're going to a restaurant this year.

The "men" are planning Mother's Day this year... my father, husband, brother-in-law and son are in charge. I'm guessing that it will involve steaks on the grill and swimming in the pool.

I don't get gifts for Mother's Day- I get time. I take a couple of hours on Saturday and get my nails done and a massage. My husband enjoys having the kids to himself and I enjoy the two hours of no cell phones and QUIET.

This is the first year we will be in FL for Mother's Day and the first time in nearly 15 years that I will be with my mom and I couldn't be happier about it!

Sounds like you have a really great day planned, I bet she'll love it! For dinner I love anything I don't have to cook or clean up.

Mother's Day is usually pretty busy here. I am going to a friend's beach house on Saturday afternoon and we are running in a race on Sunday morning. I should be home at around noon. My husband will have to take one son to a lacrosse game early in the morning, then I'll meet them at the field for another game for another son at noon. My parents and siblings are coming for dinner after that - we planned on take-out so my mom, sister and I don't have to cook or clean but my husband wants to grill so we might have grilled prime rib (yum!). But that's only if he can get one our older kids to sub for him at snackbar duty, which he signed up for without knowing that it was MD. We'll then go visit my grandmother-in-law, who is 94 and in a rehab recovering from a recent illness.

I recently spent a ton of money on upgrades to my bicycle so that's in lieu of my birthday and MD gifts - I really look forward to the cards and projects from my little guys anyway, those are usually pretty funny and sweet.

Nice!!!!

All I want to do is relax. I want to go to breakfast at a diner (my choice) and a t-ball game is going to get in the way and my hubby doesn't want breakfast at noon or diner food for lunch. So I guess I won't be getting what I want to eat.

Then we have to visit his mother in a nursing home (again, something that is super depressing - yet I have to go). Then who knows. I asked for a plan but it's unlikely he will make one. But don't worry, I'll toss a whole lot of guilt in.

My hubby is so good in so many ways - but not this way. Birthdays and Mother's Day suck. Oh well! At least I got to vent!

Awww ~ that sounds like a lovely M-Day for your wife!

My boys and I are heading out of town for the weekend (my husband can't go b/c he has to work) for my nephew's baptism. We won't really be celebrating M-Day b/c I will be on the road most of the day after church (6+ hour drive home). Oh well!

We went to see Iron Man 3 last weekend. My husband asked me what I wanted to do for M-Day and I wanted to take the boys to see the movie. It was fun!

What a sweet thing to do for your wife / mother of your kids!
My husband will be going out of town for the week for a class and leaving on Sun.
The annual plant sale at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens is this weekend (always on Mother's Day weekend) so we'll (son, Hubby and me) get a few plants and walk the grounds on Sat, have a meal at Red Robin's and our son will help me get things planted in between rain / thunder storms.
