I am seeking advice on this virus. My daughter and I were with my sister and her little boy this past weekend. He has been infected with HFM and I am afraid now that my daughter will get it. We were with them all weekend. My daughter is 5 months and I have been doing some research on the sickness and it says that the mouth sores can be pretty painful. I am curious if she does get it how do you help her cope with the pain. Tylenol or Mortin? This will be the first time she is sick and I am thinking the worst without even knowing she has it yet. I know there is the possibility that she won't get it but I am thinking with how active they were this weekend together and the hugs and kisses and playing that she will get it. I am stressing about the unknown.

What can I do next?

my son had this about 6 months agao and no one else at daycare got it. your daughter may be ok, but if she does get it the rash is not painful that comes with it it is the mouth soars that are not fun. my son ran a high fever for 2 days and then got the soars and had them for about 3 days i think. we just alternated with tylenol and motrin to help but he didnt eat or drink a lot while he had them. he was up all nite 1 nite and then started feeling better. just make sure your daughter stays hydrated, that is a major concern with the disease. i hope your daughter doesnt end up getting it.

Silver Solution! Ask your peds doc but mine says its safe in a small amount for young ones. It worked great when 2 out of our 12 had strep too. The other ones took it and never got sick. You can't take it with an antibiotic because your systen just rids your body of the medicine. My mother freaked out once when one of the grand kids got into hers and drank half a bottle. She called the poison control and they said its not harmful unless he drank a gallon at high strength. He didn't get sick for almost 6 months and he had always got everything he was exposed to. Would only recommend the daily allowable not half the 12 ounce bottle. There is no taste kids love it.

My nine year old daughter had it, and my 6 year old and my 15 month did not get it. Hope that makes you feel better. My nine year old was not in much pain at all. It was more annoying if anything. It also passed within 3 days. I only gave her Tylenol for her sore throat and mild fever. Hope this helps...good luck!

They're bound to get sick sometime :) Yes, Tylenol and Motrin are helpful - you'll know she's in pain if her feeding habits change. My daughter used to drink very hungrily but quit way too soon when she had HFM because I suppose it hurt to eat... I'm sure you'll get good advice here, also look back at old posts, this one has been discussed a lot. Good Luck!

Get some mouth gel (the kind that numb pain) will help with the mouth sores. You can use this to put in her mouth. Because the person infected is usually most contagious a week before they show signs, she may not get it. :-)
