Ok this is my very first question on the sight. I need some ideas for my youngest daughters Halloween party at school shes 9. Here's the catch no candy or sweets! Like what the heck lol? The kids seem to old for rings and pencils and stickers soooo please HELP!!!!! Y I forgot to add no home made goods either. And I get the allergy thing, shes allergic to peanut butter. But at this age they pretty much know what they can and can't eat atleast my daughter does!

What can I do next?

Yikes! That's a tough one. I get it- wanting to cut down on all the junk, but it makes it harder for the parents!

How about fruit/veggies- but arrange them into a scary face once you get there? A couple plates with grape eyes and carrot teeth into a scary face? Or a pumpkin shaped out of carrots? The kids might like grabbing the body parts. You could provide ranch dressing or hummus to dip them in?.

What about those mandarin orange cups? You can use a black sharpie marker to draw a jack-o-lantern face on the lids. Super cute. You could do the same with a bag of oranges or clementines.

Does your school have a "no home-made, must be packaged" rule?

Cut up apples or carrots might be good. You could send a bag of pretzels or popcorn, or those packaged crackers with cheese. You could do small boxes of raisins. A jug of apple juice.

check out this cute veggie tray, a frankenstein made of sugar snap peas, olives and carrots. It would cost $6 or less I bet and take only a few min. to put together

Glow in the dark sticks that make necklaces and bracelets. Even 9 yo boys will wear them out trick or treating with their families.:)

How about little baggies with plastic spiders, pencils, skull rings, temp. tattoos, etc...? You can get all that stuff at the local dollar store and it won't cost much at all.

If you're allowed to bring homemade treats, I always find snack mixes to be a big hit. I've done the traditional Chex Snack Mix, but I've also made my own. One that I love to make is just a mix of goldfish, pretzel goldfish (because the size is very convinient), raisins, craisins, yougurt covered raisins, dried fruit and mm's - you could always leave out the mm's if you think it would cause a stink.

There are also store bought snack mixes you could get.

I agree that most of the items people put in a goody bag would probably not be a huge hit with the 9 year old crowd.

Good luck!

How much time can you spare? lol

You can mummy wrap 100% juice boxes. Wrap them in white tape or just ghost them out and wrap them in white paper then add googly eyes (assuming you're even allowed to bring juice.

In case it does not take, it's pretty much a clementine , peeled with a slice of celery for stalk. looks like a tiny pumpkin

My 9 year old is giving out stencils and for my 7 year old ribbons on a stick. Sticks cost me $2 and I have a ridiculous amount of ribbon already. Even my 9 year old wants one

Popcorn
the grocery store sells it. Forget the brand. But it already popped popcorn in various flavors and comes in a bag.

Our school's policy is NO FOOD for parties. I think it is great. They have a parade, do art and other activities, socialize and learn the food is NOT the focus of all social activity. It is a really important lesson for them to learn. Besides, there will be plenty of garbage for him to eat after trick or treating. Kids are never to old for pencils and stickers. And there are always glow sticks.

Go to the dollar store and pick up glow sticks and/or glow necklaces. A friend of mine bought the mini cans of play dough and made new labels that said "Boo dough" for a gift. And fake mustaches are all the rage around here. That might be fun!

As for food treats there are plenty of tasty snack mixes available. Last year for valentine's day I put grapes and strawberries on skewers. The kids couldn't get enough of those...who doesn't love food on a stick? And last year for a mad scientist party I made a skeleton veggie platter similar to this one...https://www.google.com/search?q=skeleton+veggie+tray&...

Awe, thats too bad.

I saw a halloween mix on pinterest that contained mostly pretzels & cereal...kinda like a chex mix.

and/or perhaps you could get those little halloween packages of playdough? Or I know a friend last year that made playdough for one of her daughters oral presentations. She packed the playdough in those little solo cups with the lids. That could be an idea too.

A lot of the schools try to keep candy out because it gives the kids a sugar high but the main reason is all of the allergies that some children have... nuts, eggs, etc. My daughter doesn't have allergies and I haven't had to deal with it but as a teacher I have had to deal with it because I don't want to give something to a child and not know they are allergic.

For my trick or treaters, I do have the regular sized candy bars BUT I also give out a lot of pencils, erasers, glow bracelets, glow necklaces, notepads, tattoos, rings, etc.

Amazon had a box of 100 glow bracelets for $5/free prime delivery, so I ordered that. Some will go to school with him. Others will be passed out to friends while we trick-or-treat. The rest will get used up some way :)
