Halloween Party

I love to have halloween parties for my kids. Some of my favorite games have been the mummy relay, pairs up the kids and have one wrap the other one in crepe paper (or toilet paper) like a mummy until the roll is done, then the one wrapped up has to hop to the other side of the room where he/she has to break out of the wrapping (with help from their partner) and then the switch. I also love zombie tag... the rules are just like marco polo only make a big circle for the kids to stay in and have one put on a zombie or ghost mask (since they are so little it will be big, so it will be hard for them to see) instead of the "zombie" saying "marco" he should make zombie noises and the other kids should scream like they are scared. I also usually make cupcakes with ghosts outs of nutter butter cookies (frost them white with black eyes and mouths) stuck into the center.

I've done several Halloween parties for my 2 kid's birthdays when they were younger (their birthdays are 3 days apart with Halloween right in the middle). Some of the things we played were, throw the spider on the web with plastic ring spiders and the big stretchy cotton web stuff you can buy at walmart. I did a pumpkin toss by screwing 5 neon plastic pumpkins to a black 2x4 board, kind of like the old bozo the clown bucket game, we used ping pongs for the balls. We did an apple game by hanging apples at different heights then having the kids hold their arms behind their back to see who could take a bite of their apple first without hands. I also did a spider ring toss with plastic rings (I think they were diving rings left over from summer) I had a blow up black spider with 8 legs sticking up but I think you could easily make one by twisting up thick black paper. We also had balloon races with orange and black balloons, did face painting, and colored jackolanterns on paper plates. I served green "witches brew" (koolaid) and orange cupcakes with Halloween rings stuck in the icing for snacks. The kids had a lot of fun every time we had a party like this and they got to take home their spider rings, balloons, and plate jackolanterns for favors. Good luck, and have fun!

gummi worms and chocolate pudding are always a nice treat. you can sprinkle crumbled oreo cookies(without the creamy centers) on to the pudding and then stick the gummi worms half way out of the pudding.

I would stick to non creepy games at that age such as pin the nose on the cat, musical pumpskins, coloring pages with halloween stuff to do,perhaps ghost bowling etc. Dancing to monster mash is always a hit!

The kids always love feel and guess games.
Like a bowl of cooked cool spagetti, dried fruit, anything that they can touch and then try to guess what it is and their imagination goes wild, plus it is not too scary for the little ones.

I love to serve brain juice: 1 part lime sherbert to 1 part lemon lime soda- the kids love it from a punch bowl or from skeleton shaped cups.

We do a pumpkin carving party every year (except this one, I am do with out third in 2 weeks) If you have a large back yard, or different areas in a back yard, fill a few plastic pumpkins with candy or treats, and put one of those glow sticks in side. The kids can then "hunt for them" in the back yard, and find a treat. We also get or have each kid bring, a small baking pumpkin, and some face decorating stickers. Carving the pumpkin is messy, but fun.

There is this one game you use straight preztle sticks and cubed cheese, and assemble a skeleton by connecting the "bones" to the joints (cheese) Use large marshmallows for heads. Then the kids can eat their skeletons.
You can do slime punch (ginger ale and Limeade) with ice cubes filled with Gummy Critters. Central Market has a current halloween selection of different gummy eyeballs, scorpions, and other candy that may be fun to use.

Oh what a fun age to plan a party for!! We always enjoyed "The Guessing Game". You need disposable gloves, a few plastic mixing bowls, hand towels to cover the tops of the bowls and just your imagination. Use cooked spagetti for "brains" (a lil oil when they are done keeps them from sticking together), peeled grapes for "eyeballs", just about anything weird and mushy that they can reach under the towel and feel. I also had a ton of fun with graveyard cake. Just make any kind of cake in a 9x13 pan, but it's the decorating that gets fun! Crunched up graham crackers, oreo and pudding makes for great dirt topping. Cut toasted marshmellows in half for the headstones. Stick in a few gummy worms for extra effect. You might check your local hobby store - sometimes they have other edible "effects" like spiders or candy bones. Oh and instead of pin the tail on the donkey, we used a paper cut out skeleton and had to pin the hand on him, or foot or whatever appendage you choose. Your only limit is your imagination! this idea isn't so scary, but we're having halloween pinatas and face painting at ours. also pumpkin decorating. have fun!

What about the game where you put your hand in a bag and touch different things? The older children could try and guess what they are touching. You could do cooked spaghetti, peeled grapes, Jello, etc. I remember doing that in haunted houses when I was going up.

You could put different things in different bowls and make them touch it and guess what they are. But it gross feeling things so they think it is something other then what it really is.
