My DD is only 3, and doesn't really care what she will dress up as. So, I browsed through Pinterest, found a bunch of ideas I liked, then had her pick her favorite. This year she will be a pirate. :)

I am excited, because I enjoy making her costumes by hand. Last year, we were too broke to buy supplies for costumes for anyone but her... But last year's costume sold for more than I thought it would and I have a nice budget for this year's supplies! So I get to dress up with her! Yay! Lol. I am going to make my DD a little captain, and my SIL and I will be buccaneers. :)

So, do you enjoy dressing up on Halloween with your children? If you do, and your children are willing to go along with it, do you do themed costumes, or random costumes?

What can I do next?

My daughter (11) has become known in her neighborhood for her amazing, home-made, costumes. So I can't keep up with her in costuming! I will sometimes wear something simple - dress in black & wear a mask.

She has come up with and made mummy, robot, and a scary clown on stilts (yes, real stilts) costumes the last three years. These were mainly made with materials we had on hand, so expenses are minimal (glue & paint, cheap clown wig). She gets this creativity from her father, who has costume pieces and face make-up at hand!

Absolutely! The whole family dresses up. We used to do things randomly and a few years back started themes. We are somewhat "known" in our neighborhood for our costumes. I try to use mostly what we have on hand and I shop carefully. The most I spent for four costumes was a $80, but last year I spent $6. Our first theme was Ghostbusters. The next year we were Star Wars characters. I was Queen Amadala, my daughter was Princess Leia. Hubby was Jengo Fett and my son was Boba Fett. That was the expensive year. Last year was our cheap year. We were Lego people - a King, queen, princess and knight. I collected old boxes for the bodies. And for months, collected plastic cheese ball bottles from my in-laws for the heads. I happened to have the paint I needed on hand. The money was spent on foam spray for the Lego hair.

absolutely! Halloween is fun.

When my sons were younger, I always dressed up. Usually as a witch... it was pretty much my theme & the kids loved it. I still do this for my daycare...always very child-friendly, tho'.

Soooo here's my disclaimer: with 9 years between my sons, I dressed up as a witch for a long time. :)

I have a pirate costume that I wear when I go out with my kiddo (But this year, his first "real" year trick or treating at places other than just family, I will be 26 weeks pregnant on Halloween so I doubt that I will be able to fit into it... Although I still don't have a bump at 18 weeks so we will see), but his costume's are never pirate related.

I would totally dress up with my kids but I usually dont want to spend the money on a costume for myself. WE did do the halloween party at Disneyland one year so I went to walmart and bought an huge (like 5x) orange shirt and cut and resewed it to be blousey and painted a "mickey jack o lantern" face on it in black. I wore black leggings and made a "leaf and vine" hair piece out of green felt and green pipe cleaner attached to a clip. It was maybe $5. I would really love to make an awesome witch costume (think the movie Hocus Pocus) that I could wear every year. It would be awesome!

I cant get my husband to dress up for the life of me. My DD is going to be 3 on Friday and she keeps asking him so maybe she will convince him :) the last 2 years I have just worn all black and cat ears - used my eye liner to pain on whiskers - but my kiddos are normally themed. My son thinks its awesome. My DD 1st halloween my son was 4 she went in a bee jacket and he was a bee keeper. Last year they went as Wayne and Garth from Waynes World. So their costumes only cost me $12 - a wig for my son and glasses for my daughter. I had everything else.

They have started tossing around ideas for this year but being 7 and 3 they change their minds every 5 seconds so we will see what happens
