Halloween Costume Ideas - Charlottesville,VA

So what's everyone being for Halloween this year? I need some ideas for my boys (9 & 6). They both want to be dirt bike riders, which I'm trying to discourage because it's nothing new for them. They ride every weekend! Plus, my older son wore his gear last year for Halloween. What are some cool ideas you've done or seen?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, you ladies are quick to respond! Thanks for the ideas. I've been browsing on line and found this great site for homemade costumes. There are some really hysterical ones under the "Illusions" category- for kids and adults! I might have to try one of these! http://www.coolest-homemade-costumes.com/optical-illusion...

If I were you I'd let them go as dirt bike riders since that is what they want to do. The whole idea is to have fun.

My 8yo grandson is going as Captain America (I think). We bought his costume at Target for $30. He'll wear it all year long when playing at home.

My 7 y/o is going as an injured skateboarder. He plans to ride his skateboard around, has bandages for his head, leg and arm and a torn up t-shirt that says Wipe Out. My 3 y/o is going as a policeman and wants to look "just like Daddy".

@ Amanda ~ I went to a Halloween Party one year and 3 of us girls were pregnant nuns and a guy friend went as a Priest. We won the prize!

Do they have some fav character to dress up as - like Ash from Pokemon or something? Last year my son was Mario. They could do Mario and Luigi?

Could you encourage them to go as undead zombie dirt bike riders or dirt bike vampires? That way they get to play with the fangs, makeup, and fake blood. Or Stephs idea of injured dirt bike riders? Thought that's probably more scary to a mom than anybody else!

My girls are going as Captain America's Daughter and Spider Girl (they picked, I swear, and my mom bought the costumes).

I usually just cheat and wear my ren fair pirate costume (or portions thereof)...but I was thinking this year I might go as "smarty pants"... which is just to attach rolls of smarties to pants LOL I love puns, so it's very me LOL

My son (5-1/2) wants to go as a cheetah. He was a lion last year - I made a poncho out of some faux fur from Joann's with a hood and a mop (perfect one from Target looked just like the cowardly lion) for a mane. Added a tail and some makeup. This year, he wants to paint spots on the lion costume and make it a cheetah. Not sure if we will do this or something else. Shark maybe?

Kids are going as Skelabride, Supergirl, and a dinosaur :)

I have NO idea what I want to be. I bought a cheap mascarade mask, so I might where the black gown I wore to a black tie event a while ago with the mask... waiting on my procrastinating husband to decide what he wants to be first!!

I also though about being a bar wench (not the slutty kind), or a hockey player, or a hula girl... I have no idea! I need something kid appropriate for trick or treating, but something off the wall and more original for this adults only party we're going to... also thought of maybe being an old lady... or a Spartan cheerleader... or, or, or ;) I HAVE NO IDEA!!
