Husband and I both in our 60's. He is thinning greatly and wants more hair of course. Who wouldn't. Any products tried and successful? Rogaine? Please and thank you oh so much.
Ps- he is greatly receding in the front, none at the crown of his head.

What can I do next?

I have a friend who has recently cut out meat from most of the food she feeds to her family. They are eating a lot more veggies. Her husband swears that his hair is growing in much thicker than it was before. (He is still fairly young though--in this late 30's.)

I have another friend who has been making veggie/fruit/kale smoothies for herself and her husband (mid-60's) and he has said that his hair is growing in more too!

It probably takes a couple months to see any results, but you might want to try reducing his meat consumption (eating lots of animal protein is linked to hair loss) and adding more veggies to his diet. Even if it doesn't add hair to his head, at least he will have been eating a healthy diet. Good luck!

He can get his hair moved around. That's what hair plugs are. Hair from someplace else moved to his balding area.

They take a tool that looks very similar to an Orange zester and the run it along the scalp on the back of his head where his hair is thicker. This gives them long skinny ribbons of scalp with hair follicles on it. They use microscopic tools to cut tiny bits of this strip off.

Then they use a tool that looks like a grass/yard aerator and run it over the bald spots. It cuts tiny round holes into that scalp area. Then they take and put a tiny little section of that ribbon of scalp they took off the back.

The person then has some bandages or a cap to wear that they can't take off for a while. It gives the hair pod time to attach and grow connective tissue so it doesn't pop out...

It's quite interesting to watch it done. I can't remember if it was TLC or Discovery that I watched them do a guys hair. It is hair that is just moved from a hairier spot to a non-hairy spot. It heals and is normal hair that grows and stays with them.

Honestly? Just embrace it. Nothing is sadder than a man trying to regain their hair/youth. Oh the lengths men will go to... no pun intended. lol
My husband is losing at the crown. At first, he was all paranoid about it. But I told him I would love him whether he had a gazillion hairs up there or just one. He hasn't worried about it anymore.

My hubby is also losing his hair at the front. His loss has been going on for a while. The hair growth products such as Rogaine all say they are for hair loss on the crown of the head, but my hubby has used it in the front and we do see a bit of new growth but it takes a while to notice any result.

D.,

Have him shave his head. There's really no product out there that will help him regrow hair.

He can do the hair transplant if he's that desperate - but really? he's in his 60s...tell him to grow up and embrace his age! Tell him to shave his head...it's sexy!! :)

He's going to feel the way he's going to feel but the guys who look best are the ones who embrace what genetics have given them.
Comb overs look ridiculous.
The drugs and or implant surgeries are costly.
Toupees really often do look like a dead squirrel on a guys head.
Male pattern baldness has to do with how the hair follicles on his head interact with testosterone - so - He's The Man! and he might as well be proud of it.
Shaving it off is not a bad idea.
It is a sexy look! and it's really easy to take care of.

Alopecia is genetic and there are no sure cures. I would suggest that he talk with his doctor about options, but be ready to embrace the fact that his hair is not connected to his masculinity or good looks. As a matter of fact, there are some REALLY great looking bald men out there.

Don't have him shave it just yet. Every head does not look good bald, and you do not want him to go from bad (really?) to worse. At this stage, while he is still seeking options, he needs to hope that he can fall back on that if all else fails. Do not remove that hope until he has tried everything else that he wants to try.

Meanwhile, just keep telling him (in words and deed) that it's no big deal to you or that you love it--whichever would please him more. Encourage him to find a good barber/hair stylist who can help him make the most of what he's got. Maybe a buzz cut?

There is a new technique called Ravage. It's low level laser. Is about $2000 for 4 30 minute sessions.

Hair transplants. For maybe $10K he can have his hair back. Is it worth it to him?
