Ok mom's once again I need your help. I have seen there are some people in here with MS, I'm 26 with MS. I stopped taking my medication for 8 months when I got pg with my last baby. I started taking my Rebif( medication for MS) about 2 months ago, and this time around I'm lossing alot of hair. My doctors say its nothing to worry about just probably happening becuase I have thick hair. But I have never lost this much hair in a day. From 5:30am to about 9 pm. I remove about 2 handfulls of hair off my clothes, and out of my brush. I feel I'm to young to loss my hair, but I could be wrong. Just wondering does anyone else have this problem, or know anyone that does, or is there anything I can do to stop lossing so much hair. Thankyou.
Well I did more research on Rebif and come to find out, with my doctor telling me, my hair loss is do to the Rebif shot. Its killing me to be losing my hair, but I would rather be bold then not be able to play with my kids.

I was diagnosed with MS the day after my 27th Birthday. I too have thick hair and lost that much. I took Copaxone before I had my daughter (2 1/2 YO) and have not gone back on it. (yet)
I don't loose that much anymore, but it took a few years.

I know that sometimes hair loss can come from a combination of the medications and nutrition. People I know have had success on Vemma because it is a powerful all natural approach because it doesn't interfere with other things you might need to take. I lost tons of hair for about a year after each of my boys were born. I don't have MS, but this hair loss could be due to you just giving birth and your hormones are out of wack for a while. Just a thought.
I also don't think that it is the medication, but the pregnancy hormones. I lost so much hair, I should be collecting it for a wig. 13 months later, I am still loosing handfuls of hair - I think I should be bald by now!

First, kudos to you! You must be an amazingly strong, (mentally & physically) person. I am not sure about the MS, my sister in law has it, but she is quite a bit older than you and has different issues. However, when I had my third child my hair came out in clumps after I stopped breast feeding. I too had thick hair however I became very concerned and had all kinds of tests to make sure nothing else was wrong with me and sure enough it must have been hormones because it lasted for quite a while (about 4 months) and luckily I had a lot of hair because it did thin out, but then it stopped. I did take some B vitamins and other natural things to help it, but I have heard from many people that hair loss with babies is very common. Good Luck to You!
After each of my 5 kids, I lose that much hair. I have thick hair so I never got bald spots but I bet this is due to having a baby and is totally normal. Unless you have bald spots, I would say not to worry.
I have also used Rebif twice. I first took it when I found out I had MS and then took a break to have a son who is now 19 months, and started again when he was nine months old, as I had been breast feeding. I did go through the hair loss thing, but it was after my son was born and before when I started the Rebif.
I would assume it is just because of the pregnancy hormones going back to normal.

I lost TONS of hair after I had my daughter. My doc said it was a hormone thing and would taper off. Eventually it did slow down, but even now, three years later, I still seem to lose a lot more hair than I used to - just not as much as I was right after my pregnancy. So you are not alone! :) I didn't really do much of anything about it, though. Figured that since I'm not bald (even though bald is beautiful on some) that I can't be losing as much as it seems like I am. But I sympathize with you because it can be pretty startling to all of a sudden see handfuls of hair that used to be on your head! CJ
I agree with the other moms that think your hair loss is a result of just having a baby. I had my 4th child 6 months ago. My post-partum hair-loss got a lot worse with each child, this one by far being the worst! I really, truely, literally think that I have lost half of my hair in the last 3 months! (it starting getting falling out in handfuls...just like you described...when he was about 3 months old) It is finally starting to slow down, and I am even starting to see some regrowth.
So, hang in there! It will get better!
It is very normal to have massive hair lose after having a baby. It normally starts around 3-4 months and ends by the babies first birthday. Its just hormones. From what I just read for my sister who just had a baby you will not go bald from this.

I wonder if your hair loss is more from the pregnancy then the medication itself. It is very common for moms to lose hair 4-6 months after delivering, it just your hormones going back to normal and your body getting rid of all the extra you gained when you were pregnant. If you did not lose your hair the first time you took Rebif, I would not think it would happen this time around either (thought it could I guess). How long ago did you have your baby? I have very long fine hair, but I have a ton of it. I have always lost a lot of hair since I was a teenager, but even i worried about the amount I was losing after I had my son. He is now 11 months and the hair loss is back to its normal rate and my hair is as thick as ever. I am 27 so I understand you not wanting to lose your hair so young. I hope this helps!
Hi, B.! Keep in mind that your hair loss could be post-partum related; I lost tons of hair for 6 months after having both my kids! Keep up with your pre-natal vitamins, and that will help.

I don't have MS -- but I do remember when my baby was about 3-4 months old that I started losing alot of hair. I know that while you are pregnant that some of the hormonal changes cause you to not lose hair as much while you are pregnant and it takes a while to start losing it again afterwards. If you have really thick hair, then those 2 handfuls may just be you catching up on the hair you would have naturally lost while pregnant. But, you should check with your doctor and see if hair loss is a side effect of your medication.

I just noticed your youngest is 3 months. I lost a TON of hair with both of my kids. It seemed to be the worst about 3 months. I actually had a reciting hair line, I lost hair so bad. My little girl is 6 months old and I have patches of hair growing back now. Woo Hoo! Its amazing what hormones can do to your body. But if the side effects of Rebif are hair loss then it might just add to it, unfortunately. The hormones will subside so hopefully you'll your normal hair back soon! I just have to say I admire your strength and positive attitude about the MS, its not an easy disease to live with. Don't ever lose that.
