I was wondering if anyone can recommend some where to take my 17 month old daughter for her first official hair cut. I live in Philadelphia but don't really want to pay $55 for it but I want someone that will be sweet. Is there any place especially for kids?

What can I do next?

Cookie Cutters in Chestnut Hill and Ardmore. They have cars to sit in and videos for the kids to watch. Slides, too. I paid $19.50 plus tip. I have also been to Supercuts - $10 plus tip.

hi G.-
the beehive on fairmount ave. is great with kids. definitely less than 55 dollars too, though i don't know the exact price. call them at 215-235-hive. i think you'll be very happy. they also have two sweet dogs that the kids adore.

Hi G.. I'm not sure where in Phila. you live but if you are familiar with the City Line area in Phila.(near St. Joe University and Lankenau Hospital on Lancaster ave). There's a really great Family Salon called "Hairs To You". They do quite alot of small children, in fact they're known for being very patient and they're also known for their little red car that the kids seem to like getting their hair cut in. The prices are great (probably half of what some Philly salons charge.) They are located on the main line just off the intersection of Lancaster ave. and Wynnewood rd. Phone # ###-###-#### Let me know if you'd like more info. P. L.

Hi G.,

My girlfriend cuts hair out of her home... she has a 16 month old, and the environment is safe, fun, and 100% relaxing. She is great at what she does - she has been doing mine and several friends' hair since she moved here. and super cheap.

if you're not ready for commercial-type stressors and the like, i would be happy to send you her information.

let me know if you - or if anyone who reads this - is interested. she does haircut, color, kids, men, women, the lot. she is certified, just doesn't want to work in a salon right now with her kid at home.

Wow $55!

Not in Philly, but Kids Kuts in the Marple Cross Roads Shopping Center in Marple is geared totally towards kids and only charges about $12 for a cut...

I know there is a place here in North Wilmington that actually does the child's first hair cut for free. I believe their name is Headquarters. Maybe you could call around to some of the places in your neighborhood and see if any of them offer the same deal.

I would recommend Ruth Daneman's Hair Salon in South Philadelphia. They are a neighborhood salon, very homey atmosphere, they have an adorable cat they adopted (or it adopted them) from the neighborhood & are all very sweet. Erin Anderson is the owner & is a young, super sweet woman. My son is 19 so I don't have a young one anymore to attest to their abilities with young kids but assume since they are a neighborhood salon they have the experience. My son & I travel there from Jersey cause we like what they do & are so comfortable there. But give them a call, stop in & have a chat to see how you feel, Google them for reviews: 1728 E Passyunk Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19148 ###-###-####

Childrens Hair Studio. The address and phone number are 171 Byberry Road, Phila. 19116- ###-###-####.

My friends and I love this place. They have really cute chairs for the kids to sit in and televisions at every station. The staff is really nice. Not expensive at all. Hope this helps!
