Good AFTERNOON ALL! This past Thursday i dyed my hair a caramel color with light blond highlights. My hair feels very dry... i am assuming its because of all the processing? anyway, i was wondering IF anyone has any used any conditioning hair masks, either store bought OR home made that will help my hair feel more soft/hydrated? one of my major problems IS when in the shower and am lathering up, the top part of my hair gets really tangled!
Just a little background....
-i have not done anything to my hair except trim for the past 6 years
-i my hair is down to my midback and its very thick and heavy
- my natural color is dark brown ( not sure if that matters)
-I wash my hair every day...if i dont my roots get super SUPER, like i could squeeze out enough oil to fry some tacos OILY
- i use hair dryer daily and alternate between curling iron/hot rollers/straightener

I did google some information But i would rather ask here.
Thank you for your time and for any suggestions.

What can I do next?

My daughter (18) and I have long straight dark hair. We only trim and use one step color ONLY by a professional.... never, EVER a DIY.

We routinely use coconut oil for conditioner. We use in on the ends, not scalp. Leave it overnight. We both have very healthy, shiny tresses and I swear by Coconut oil.

A jar is less than $10 found in the oil aisle at the grocery. It is in solid form but when it gets on your hands, it melts. Don't use too much at once, moderately or you'll have to use a clarifying shampoo to get the excess out.

We typically shampoo every other day. I use the hair dryer for less than 5 minutes... We let our hair get almost dry by air drying first and limit the heat we put on it. We don't do curlers. She will only use the Chi straightener for special occasions.

My hair is wavy, thick, and to my mid back. The key for me, is not shampooing often. I typically only shampoo my roots twice a week, and only shampoo my whole head about 1-2 times a month. (When starting that routine, my hair was very oily for a few weeks, and I used dry shampoo. We are not supposed to shampoo often, because our hair needs to produce oil to hydrate. It tried overcompensating there at first. After that, I never have oily hair.) My hairdresser gave me all the info in how to take care of my hair, and she was totally right. I have extremely healthy hair. How often do you wash? You are likely over-washing. I also never use a hairdryer, or any kind of heat. My hair falls nicely, so I don't need to do much styling. If you do need to use heat, use a heat therapy treatment.

In the winter, I do use a mask every so often. The hot water can be drying. This is what I use: http://www.organixhair.com/product/intensive-treatment
I use the shampoo and conditioner from the same line, as well.

If you haven't go and get it trimmed now that you've colored it.
I like Ojon's leave in and go ahead and deep condition, but start in the middle of your hair and pull to the end. try to keep away from your oily roots. :)

Do you have hard water?

Ensuring that your water is properly conditioned is the key to healthy hair. My hair is SOOOOOOO dry and icky feeling when I wash with hard water. Soft and silky with conditioned water.
