Hair Breakage Products for Little Girls

I need to do something different for my 3yo DD's hair.

I have been letting her bangs grow out, so now they are at that crazy stage where they are too long to leave out, but too short to get into a pony tail. They have been driving both of us nuts getting into her eyes! I keep considering cutting them again, but she HATES getting them trimmed (which is a monthly/bimonthly ordeal with how quickly her hair grows...) and asked me to grow them long like Mommy's.

I found several hairstyles that help, but they all include pulling the hair into braids or little pony tails that have to be secured wi those tiny rubber bands... Which are playing hell with her hair. I tried using a different type of band, but they just don't hold her hair. I have used different methods of removing the bands, and cutting them does less damage than trying to unwind them did, so that helps... But I can still see where the daily use of them is really starting to break her hair.

So, are there any great anti-breakage products you like? My DD is fine with using adult brands (meaning that she doesn't have any skin sensitivities, and is good about letting me rinse without getting it into her eyes...)but I typically prefer to go for "clear" (less chemicals and junk) types for her.

Soooo.... Suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Headbands don't work in my DD's hair... Neither do clips (alligator or snap) or barrettes. The hair literally slides right out of them. I even went out and bought the kind that are lined with that grippy rubber stuff (can't remember what it is called) and some that were made COMPLETELY of it... Nope. Headbands last all of 5 minutes, and the clips even less. :(

Ugh. I feel for both of you! That was my hair when I was little. Nothing would stay in it. It would just slide right out. I still have fine hair.

Last time getting my hair cut, my friend sprayed my hair with a little dry shampoo instead of hairspray to give it some hold. Maybe the clips would stay in with that. The rubber bands are terrible about breakage. And Ouch!

I'd say use some product in her hair each morning then. I used mousse when I was putting my granddaughters hair back for the day.

I also bought plastibands instead of rubber bands. I get them at Walmart in both the little girls section where they have a few things that are girly and the over in the hair care isles. They are single use items. They stretch out when put in and don't go back.

I'll try to post a picture in a moment. These can slip right out if you want them to. I put them in quite tight then could just slid them down the pony tail when I was ready for them to come out.

They don't break the hair. They're plastic not rubber.

Here they are in 3 sizes and clear. The other package would have multi colors but one size.

This is a different style, also at Walmart.

Anti-breakage products are for people whose hair breaks because it's dry and brittle, from heat styling, coloring, chemical relaxing or under nourishment. I don't think that those would solve your problem as the problem isn't with your DD's hair, it's with the bands, kwim?

How about head bands? My niece is 3 and my sister uses thin, stretchy headbands that wrap around her daughter's whole head. They are comfortable and stay in place all day.

Have you tried little clips? I think she also uses the ones that are sort of shaped like a long, thin triangle that you bend up to open and then bend down to close and those work too.

The best barrette is called a "French Barrette". They are the kind that has a little swing bar that you release by pinching 2 little prongs.
I just picked up a bunch for my daughter from Clarie's over the weekend. She's got long, fine hair and doesn't always want it done up but wants it out of her face. These work perfectly.
One of the sets I picked up are these
