I'm wanting to start selling hair bows I make for my 3 girls. I wanted to start out with a Facebook page first before diving into Etsy but I'm still stuck on a name! I would love a cute southern name. Possibly something with Sugar babies in it (my great grandpaw called me that when I was little😌). I do want to make sure I have the word "bow/s" in there too. Thank y'all in advance! ❤️

What can I do next?

Research, research, research!

The worst thing you can do is come up with some cute name, plaster is all over your pages and your products/invoices/collateral materials and then find out someone else is using it. Search domain names too. A cease & desist order is expensive, and so is renaming a business you've tried to launch. And basic research would have told you that Sugar Babies means something totally different than the cute name your grandfather gave you.

After decades in advertising, my husband will tell you that a company name is far less important than a marketing plan and good advertising to your niche market. A good name won't sell a poor product or a good product that's underexposed. You should look into ways to get your bows to stand out - Etsy is fine but it is super crowded with hundreds of crafters.

You might look into some small, privately owned (non-chain) children's stores near you, including resale shops which sometimes carry some new items. There will be a lot of gift and craft fairs in November and early December too - look into building up a big inventory and getting into some of them for good exposure. You need a big inventory because you need to look like a bigger company than you are right now, and because you cannot leave these fairs early even if you run out of most of you products. They don't like vendors leaving in the middle of a fair.

A sugar baby in todays slang is a women who sells sex to one man who then takes care of her as her "sugar daddy", so be careful with that name.

Sugar babies - use to be a candy but it might have a darker sexual connotation right now so be careful about that.

If it were me, I'd check out Etsy and search their hair bows for girls, and see what shops have sold the most/are most popular, and what their names tend towards. I see BumbleGumDivas sells a lot, etc.

That might give you an idea of what is working already - and go from there.

I agree to not go with Sugar Babies.

PoppyBows has thousands of sales (so maybe your name and bows? or a cute southern name and bows? etc.)

I wanted to chime in and agree don't use 'sugar babies' in your name. Google sugar babies and see what comes up! I just did and you don't want to be associated with that. Not good.
