My midwife stripped my membranes to induce natural labor at my exam yesterday. I am due Sunday but am SO ready to have this baby. Have any of you had any luck going into labor with this procedure done? How soon afterwards did it happen? She did this at 3 pm yesterday(Wed) and nothing has happened yet...

What can I do next?

I've read that stimulating the breasts can cause your uterus to contract therefore potentially leading to labor. Not sure how truly effective it is but if your husband is a breast man like mine, he won't mind helping you conduct a little experiment later. LOL

Good luck!!!
I had my membranes stripped, then that night I went to a Mexican restaurant and ordered the nastiest burrito on the menu complete with chile sauce and jalapenos. I went into labor that night and she was born around lunch time.
We tried the sex and walking but that just left me tired so we gave up. Go for spicy foods.

I had my membranes stripped with no success. A week later we had to induce. I remember my OB said there was a 50/50 chance that it would start labor. Hope it works for you.

Ugh, soo painful. I would rather go through the whole thing again, sans the membrane stripping. I had it done, and didn't go into labor until a couple of days later.

I had my membranes stripped with my first daughter 11 years ago and went into labor early the next morning. I don't know if maybe it works for some and not others, but I wish you the best! I wanted to add...it HURT!!!

I actually had my membranes stripped twice with my first two children. The second time seemed to work and I had them around 24 hours later. Granted the first time they stripped my membranes, it hurt and caused some contractions, but nothing compared to what they did the second time around with both. I had natural childbirth with my firstborn and in some aspects the stripping almost felt worse than when my son's head crowned. I think it really has to hurt bad when they strip them for it to be effective. With my second baby, I knew that I was going to go into labour almost immediately after I was stripped the second time around. Whatever that midwife did, worked for sure. That afternoon, (around 4 to 5 hours later) we went in and I had her later that evening.

Alexandra,

I never had the procedure done, I always tell people to order some eggplant parmigian and eat it all! :) It worked for me with both babies within 24 hours of eating it.

A friend of mine had her membranes stripped and had her baby about 20 hours later. So it can work, but take the advice of having lots of sex, walking and of course...eat the eggplant.

Good luck!!! I know you're anxious but these precious days are soon over and before you know it you'll be wishing you could turn back time.

It just made me cramp ALL WEEKEND. It was horrible. My doctor said it would be "a little uncomfortable" to get my membranes stripped...what he meant was...it will be like "TORTURE!" It didn't work for me. I had to be induced with potocin. The whole ordeal was a nightmare, but my baby was healthy and cute as could be...it was all worth it. Good luck to you at this exciting (and scary) time! It'll all be over soon!
