Geez, It's time for my yearly examthat i scheduled a year ago and I"m about to get my period. Is it still ok to keep the appointment if i am actually still mensturating??? Is this common??? It just seems gross. and i really don't want to screw around with a false pap. but i don't want to mess around with rescheduling. uggg.

What can I do next?

I have gone for my exam while bleeding lightly before and they did still my exam and pap. They won't do it if you are bleeding heavy, but you can call ahead and ask.

Reschedule. This just happened to me in June. As everyone else has said, your gyno probably won't do it anyway, and I'm sure they're used to this happening, so just give them a call and put your mind at ease. Good luck!

my gyno's office told me that i can come when i am mensturating, if the flow is real heavy, they said i would have to come back for a pap smear only, i would just call and ask, i know its a pia to reschedule , for it can take months, i would just call.

Yes, I agree with everyone else. I believe my gyno said they wouldn't do it for several reasons.

I had to reschedule once because I was having the end of my period. She said it could screw up the pap. I'd reschedule instead of going and having them tell you then to reschedule.

Save yourself a trip.

I was told I couldn't get a pap or exam while on your period, so you might as well call and find out. That would be better than going all the way there only to have to go back another time.

I just asked my ob/gyn the same question about a month ago. They told me that if I am bleeding heavy, they can still do most of the exam. They just won't be able to do the pap test. If the bleeding is light, like at the end of the period, they would still be able to do the pap test. I would suggest that you call you ob/gyn to ask them what they want you to do.

Hi I was always told not to go while mensturating. Ask your doctors office to make sure. Good Luck....

I agree, reschedule. I just had this same issue. I did some googling & everything that I found said that your best results are 7-10 days after your period.
