Gyms W/ Childcare

I've been trying to find a gym in my area (San Clemente) that has childcare and is a reasonable price. I have two questions for anyone with input. First, is there any gyms in this area that stand out? Second, I am wondering if I'm too picky or unreasonable. I went to a gym yesterday to take a tour and go to one of the classes. I took my children to the childcare center. There was a young girl there and when we came in- she didn't get up to meet the kids, she didn't tell me where I needed to put their bag or where the kids could play until finally the director told her to get up. Then she told me to put my daughter in an area away from the other kids. She was in a gated area, in her carseat, by herself. They came and got me out of my class because my two little ones were crying. My daughter had a soiled diaper and when I went to change her in the car it was dried on her skin making me think it was there for a while. Finally, my oldest said no one talked to him or played with him. I understand the kids not being sure about him since he was new. I asked if the teacher (what he calls the adults) talked to him at all and he said no, because she was busy all the time. There was only one other child in there when I left my 3. This was unusual because my oldest usually loves going anywhere new where he can play and interact. I don't know if I'm just overprotective (very possible) or if I have reason to feel disappointed in the childcare. Any opinions are appreciated.

So What Happened?

I appreciate the responses. I have until Monday to decide if I want to keep or cancel my membership so I am going to give it another try and see how I feel from there.

I really think you just ran into a bad "watcher" at the childcare facility at the gym. If you want that gym to work out, talk with the director who told the person to stand up and tell them about your experience & how you didn't care for their childcare facility because of that one person who obviously shouldn't be working in there. The director will probably tell you better times to come (better people working in there), or they should "take care of the problem." Gyms want your business and they'll be willing to work with you if you express your consern. That is if you want to go to that gym. But honestly, by "taking care of that problem," think of the service you'll be doing to the parents who drop their kids off there.

Hi Kristen,
I go to Fitness 19 in San Clemente. It is inexpensive ($19.00 per month and right now they have a join for $9.00 start up fee. It's worth checking out, they also have child care for $2.00 (ok for small children). It's a fairly small gym, mostly weights and cardio equipment but I like it because it's more quaint instead of like a 24 hour fitness which is so busy! It's located off of Pico Avenue. Hope it works for you!

Your post is exactly why I quit going to the gym! You really can't get a great workout in when you have to worry about your child or get called out of a workout for a diaper or crying.... my answer???

www.strollerstrides.com

Your kids would love it too! Look in to it if you haven't already, your 4 yo boys could ride a scooter or bike if they are able so you'd only have to push your 2yo in a stroller. Although, I've seen a Mom with 4yo triplets do it (obviously a tad of a workout). I've been doing Stroller Strides for almost 3 years and it is the BEST workout I've ever received. You feel like you have a personal trainer at each class, it's full body toning and cardio, the kids get to play at the park with other kids afterwards and you get a chance to sit back and talk with other Mommies afterwards.

Good luck,
M.

WOW,
what gym was that?? I go to Fitness Elite, and have never had a problem with there child care...the membership is kinda expensive, but I used to go to another gym and was not happy with there child care...

at fitness Elite for women they always have lots of people in the day care and they always greet my kids and if there diaper needs changed they have come and got me...
I hope this was not the gym you were at, cause if it was, there must have been something going wrong that day...
