My 29 month old son started complaining of his leg hurting and starting limping. Could this be growing pains or just attention. He also has been sick and that maybe he was just tired.

What can I do next?

Try giving him motrin or tylenol to see if that helps the pain. If it does more then likely yes it can be growing pains. If the pain gets worse or is generalized, take him in for a check up on it.
Both of my kids have gone through pains, it isn't in one specific area though and tends to be more around the muscled areas of their legs like calves and thighs and such.
If the pain persists more then a few days I would take him in. Also he could have had a charlie horse during the night at some point, or even pulled a muscle.

I had excrutiatingly painful growing pains as a kid. Try to make sure his urine is clear that will help you to see if he has enough water in his system. also watch for easy bruising--you'll want to go into the doc if there is (our doc told us to watch for that) my dd also has growing pains and I massage her calves and legs arms and back neck and her belly to help her work out the tightness of her growing muscles, it also helps her relax so she can sleep and gives her good quality quiet time with mom before naps and bed. wins all around.

I wouldn't ignore it. My little brother started complaining that his leg hurt and would limp when he was about 6 years old. My parents just thought it was growing pains but took him to a doctor after a week of it. It turned out to be a cancerous growth one of his leg bones just below the knee. Not to scare you, but if it goes on for a week or so, take him to a doctor. The only other symptom my little brother had was that he would get bloody noses for no apparent reason.

It could be aches & pains associated with growing, sickness, dehydration or bruising. I would assess the situation and see which you think it could be.

I suggest a warm bath/warm compress for the area and plenty to drink. The warmth works well to relieve the aching and the fluids will help hydrate the body more to allow for less pain.

HTH & have a GREAT day!

My legs hurt when I was a child. Turns out the pain was caused by my feet. I had Mortensen syndrome. My feet were flat because a necessary tendon was missing. Most flat feet do not cause pain but mine did. OncE I wore custom orthotics (arch supports) a few weeks the pain went away.

ThE orthopedis taught me exercises that would strengthen muscles to take the place of the missing tendon. In my mid 20s I no longer had to wear the support.
