Yes I do have a good tip for you. A high grade carpet tile and floor cleaner like Spot Out and A Black and Decker Scum Buster. Every woman should invest in one of these. I use it for everything. Get the model with the cleaning dispenser in the handle. It really does work. Folex or Simple green work pretty good too, but it is the Scum Buster that saves the day!

Hi L.. there is a product called Heavy Duty Tile and Grout cleaner. Its made by Tile Lab. Im not to sure if home depot carries it. I used to work at Arizona Tile and they used to have it, they still might. You should call around to find it, It works soo good. Whatever you do , do not use vinager. So many people say to use vinager and it might work , but it will tear up you grout and then you will have to rip it out and replace it. Big pain and lots of money.

Hi L.,

Magic eraser works great for the bad grout spots. It takes some grunt work but it will last for a while before you have to do it again.

Hi L.,

Magic Erasers work great on grout, but if it's a big area, you'll go through a lot of them. Or, baking soda sprinkled on the grout and then spritzed with water to make a paste works really well. You can get a grout brush, basically a long, skinny stiff brush, which makes it easier. Beware that this is time consuming, and the baking soda takes a sweeping and several moppings to clean it off the tile completely. The plus side is that both of these ways are totally non-toxic and chemical-free for the little ones that are all over the floor all the time.

By the way, I'm a speech therapist, too. Have you considered starting a business and seeing kids in your home so you can be home with your little ones? It's something I've considered...

Hello!

The home or the department stores sell a grout brush. Between that and a paste of baking soda with warm water, I got our grout pretty clean. The kitchen was pretty bad, but it worked well. If your tiled area is not too big, it is probably something you can do in a few sessions over a few days if you do not want to do it all at once.

Have fun ;)

Here is the very best stuff I have ever used. The best part (other than the fact it really works well) is it is totally non-toxic... no chemicals at all and no bad smell. It is made of ground cherry pits and actually smells very good which is a huge plus for me.

Hi L.. I'm sorry to say that I don't have a solution for grout cleaner, except that I like to use the products Seventh Generation which are kid and environmentally friendly (and not that much more $). I was reading a little about you, and it sounds like you would like an opportunity to stay at home with your girls (and maybe another little one too!). My husband works and I work independently from home and take care of our little boy (14 months). If you are interested, or know of anyone who may be looking to earn some extra income, please let me know! Good luck with the Grout!!

This tip comes from a little daily email I get called "Everyday Cheapskate":

GROUT CLEANER. To clean grout, I pour a little baking soda on the grout line, add enough hydrogen peroxide to make a thin paste, scrub a few times with an old toothbrush and wipe clean. It’s cheap and much more effective than commercial grout cleaners. Be sure to test in a small area first.

You should be able to go to any flooring store and get a bottle of grout cleaner.............. In fact there is a store on 725 E. Baseline in Gilbert called The Floor Store that should carry it.............. As the wife of a flooring installer that would probably be the best way to clean it without damaging it.............

I used the Mr. Clean magic eraser on my mom's grout - and it brought her grout back to original color (it's a VERY light gray - almost white). It does take elbow grease, though.

Not sure if this is one of those urban legends or not, but just in case its true I will pass on the information. Several people have suggested the Magic Erasers, supposedly if they come in contact with children's skin they can cause terrible burns and you have to use something to neutralize the chemical to stop the "burn" from spreading. Like I said not sure if it is true, but I don't want to find out the hard way. If the chemicals from the magic eraser are on the floor and you have little ones bare feet you wouldn't want it to transfer. Good luck!
