I am a working Mom and find it very frustrating that so many Mom and Baby activities, playgroups, exercise classes, etc. take place during the week day. I would like the opportunity to meet other moms and have my daughter meet and interact with other children her age just like a SAHM would. Does anyone have any suggestions for a working Mom on the west side (Brownsburg)? I tried taking my 4 1/2 month old daughter to the infant Gymboree class in Avon and we were the only ones in the class. Plus, they're closing after this week.

Thanks for your suggestions!

So What Happened?

Hi everyone! Sorry it took me so long to post an update. I want to thank everyone for your replies. Keelin and I have signed up for a Kindermusik class at the Brownsburg Rec Center. I've also started going to a Pilates class on Thursday nights so DH watches Keelin while I'm gone. I joined the avonplaygroup Yahoo group and am hoping to meet some moms through that soon as well.

Thanks again! I appreciate all your help!

Hi S.-
I am a SAHM but I know they is a major need for this. Have you ever tried MOPS? It is for Moms with kids between the ages of 0-Kindergarten. It truly is a wonderful program. Moms get a chance to be with other Moms going through the same things they are and the children have though own class where they can interact with their peers. It truly is a blessing. I have been involved in it for 5 years now. you graduate from the program when your youngest child enters 1st grad. I know there are several night MOPS groups around. I am not sure about the Brownsburg area. You can go to http://www.mops.org/
to get more info and check for a night group in your area.

Hello! My babies and I go to Gymboree but we also do Kindermusik at the Brownsburg Rec Center. My youngest daughter's class is Tuesday nights at 6:30 (which is the same class your daugther would be in). You can try your first class for free. If you would like more information, let me know.

I work in Brownsburg also and had the same issues w/ my little one. There are not a lot activities present. I do know arbuckle acres offers some events year round that you can go to or the Brownsburg library has some activities- you may want to go there. The library activities may be for older ones- but do look into it and ask them. Most events/activities-you have to travel northside to participate in. As your baby gets older there is after hours- soccer in the fall, t-ball in spring, swimming lessons at Healthples (on west side). The healthplex does offer-camp, swimming for infants, all sorts of good activities for younger ones. We do go there a lot. You do not have to be a member to participate. I became a member and then I could do things after work whenever I chose to and we just loved it. There is racketball, basketball- things little ones can do. The ride is about 20 min from Brownsburg which is not too bad. Let me know what you think...

Im a stay at home mom from Jamestown...And I know what you mean. Sundays are about the ONLY day I can do much of anything, and theres NOTHING going on on sundays.

Have you tried making a group on meetup.com?? I have a friend who did it, and her group now has about 20 members, just a few months later! If you make the group, YOU decide the days, times etc. Im sure there are MANY other moms out there with the same delima. Good luck!

Two groups that I know of; and both were mentioned in previous emails:

MOPS- there are evening groups around town and that's something you might check out. If you go to their website, you find local groups on it. www.mops.org

Mothers and More- I was just recently on their website because I just found out about them, and I believe there is a group that meets in your area. www.mothersandmore.org

Good luck! and know that you're not alone in your search!

Try Mothers and More (mothersandmore.org). They focus on mom but also have kid activities. There are evening activities like twice-monthly 'meetings' which are actually just a fun time playing games, hanging out and sometimes having a speaker so you can learn about fun things (like hands-on cake decorating lesson!). They are also have moms nights out and bookclubs and holiday parties. It's the only national mothers group that puts the mom first and child second because "we're more than a mom". As for your daughter, I'm sure she's getting all the child interaction she needs in daycare while you work so I'd be more interested in getting support for me if I were in your shoes.
