Group/Family Costume Ideas

The last couple of years the girls in my office have done a group costume. Last year we all dressed up like nerds and were "The Nerd Herd". This year we are going to be super Heros but since we work in the accounting dept we will all have finance related names. I will be Captain Money Bags. We also have The Credit Card Crusader, The Phantom Penny Pincher, General Ledger Girl, etc. We are having fun with it. We love Halloween.

I saw a cute idea in one of the parenting magazines last year...the dad was a hot dog, the mom was a soda, the 2 kids were condiments and the smallest one was frech fries!

What if your girls dress up like basketball players, you go as the ref, and your son wears a basketball costume?

Wizard of Oz would be reallly cute, your daughters could be Dorthy and Glinda, the baby could be Toto or Cowardly Lion. Mom & Dad could be the Wicked Witch and Scarecrow.

Alice in Wonderland has lots of options too. Girls could be Alice & Red Queen, baby could be Caterpillar or White Rabbit, parents could be Mad Hatter & Cheshire Cat.

I saw cute costumes last year of this family of three. The parents were dressed like prisoner's in the old black and white striped outfits while their son (who was like 3) was dressed like the warden.

Not sure if that's doable in your situation but I had to share this. Have fun with it. What a cool idea.

When our grandson was this age we did Pirates. I made the little guy a line green fuzzy one piece outfit that had a hood. I used craft foam to make the beak and eyes, he was the parrot on hubby's shoulder. It was easy to do since he didn't walk yet.

The girl was the "damsel in distress" so she basically go to dress up like a princess. I wore a long skirt that I made in about 15 minutes. It was 2 long pieces of cloth sewn on the raw edges. The selvages were sewn into a hem across the bottom and elastic tube across the top. I used just the largest white shirt from hubby's closet and tucked it in. I wore boots that I could walk in and not struggle. Then I put a square of cloth over my hair like a bandanna. I had a wide belt from back in the 80's or something and that was a good look with everything else. It made my waist look much smaller.

Hubby borrowed a cotton pull over shirt that my friends hubby wears with his kilt for Renaissance festivals. It has the string ties at the neck with the big sleeves that are gathered at the bottom. He work his black pants and his black work boots. Then he wore just a length of fabric tied around his hips like a sash, and he wore a pirate hat we bought somewhere like a Party supply place.

Little guys costume was made off the view of the bottom right yellow and green bird. I didn't add the scalloped edges on the bottom of the sleeve though. I thought it would be in his way too much. I just turned it up and sewed it in a hem.

We are doing Alice in Wonderland this year.

My DD will be the Queen of Hearts (found a wonderful, easy-to-make costume on pinterest...)

I will be the Cheshire Cat,

and my SIL will be Alice.

Hubby found out that he has to work, otherwise he would have been the Mad Hatter. :(

Following this theme, your son could be the white rabbit. :)

We also thought about doing a harvest theme... My DD was going to be a scarecrow (Then I found the queen of hearts costume and changed everything. lol.) I was going to be a sunflower, SIL was going to be a stalk of corn, and hubby was going to be a scared crow. lol.

Legos - google Lego costume for ideas. The box version is pretty easy to make.

We have done the middle ages time as theme with a wizard mom ,knight dad, dragon and unicorn with 1 prince and 3 princess too ( we have six kids)

my main reason for responding has nothing to do with your thread and J. to let you know my brain corrects the spelling of your name to "jon's bird" i J. realized finally that is not the name. i didnt know if you were obsessed with birds or were a guy that refered to his manhood in his screenname. this information is obviously no use to you or anyone else but i needed to share=)
a family of birds? (i tied it in...see huh?=) )

One year my kids were bumble bees and my husband and I were bee keepers. The kids had actual costumes (purchased) and we dressed in all khaki and wore gardening hats that had nets over them.

Another year my youngest was a speed bump...a yellow jumpsuit with fabric painted tire marks made with our bicycles (when the outfit was off and laying on the ground), my oldest was a road...gray sweats and top with colored electrical tape to make the lanes of a road, and matchbox cars stitched on. I was a stoplight...tap lights covered with red, yellow, and green tissue paper and attached to poster board worn around my neck. The whole neighborhood LOVED this one and still talk about it a couple years later.

I was going to do superheros but for the girls make tutus rather than the usual spandex.

Last year I made Templar costumes. It was pretty easy since it's just a white cloth with a hold cut in the center for the head and stitched a red cross in the front.

My daughter and her son do this every year. So far they have done: Son as Elvis (he has gorgeous black hair, and she let it grow kind of long for several months so it would slick back) - and she was a 50's girl and hubby was a greaser. another year, son was superman, hubby was batman and she was Robin. When she was pregnant, she was a pregnant nun and hubby was a priest. When E was a baby, he was a lion and she was a cat and hubby was a dog, I think.

3 Fairies and Peter Pan?
3 lions/cheetahs and a lion tamer?
I'd ask the girls what they want to be and go from there.........

Candy bars or M & M's simple easy costumes that can be adjusted to fit as they grow.

You could each be a different candy bar or color M & M.

You could be Smurfs or Care Bears.

Harry Potter (don't know the girls ages)
Or, the Incredibles, if you're going superheroes.

My son is going to be batman and I'm making my baby a Harley Quinn costume. I don't dress up so that's about as matchy as it gets here
