Gross! Yellow, Watery Discharge from Nose? What Is That?

My husband blew his nose a few minutes ago and he had watery, bright yellow stuff in the tissue. It wasn't the usual thick stuff that we have with a sinus infection. He isn't sick. Any experience with this? Ideas? I tried to find something online but can't find anything.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Update:
JessicaWessica's description is exactly what it was like. It looked like bright yellow gatorade. He hasn't had it again since this morning. It could be allergies. I am the one with horrible allergies and I have never had flourescent yellow snot. :)
We'll see. If it happens again, I will try to get him to go see a Dr.

Thanks again!

I've had this. I was told by my ENT that it's the sinuses draining what's probably an infection. It could be pollen, it could be mold... we think it's mold because it's happened to me year round. I would be drying my hair upside down or reaching for something on the ground and feel a pop up there and when I stood up there would be this... this... FLOOD of flourescent yellow pouring out for a minute and if I blew my nose it would fill tissue upon tissue. Near the end, it sort of looks like a gel. I always feel much better once it's emptied out.

He could very well have just inhaled something that made his snot yellow. My snot gets died all kinds of pretty colors when I am cooking. Mowing the lawn makes it green. It is just your nose pushing that stuff out.

I've read bright yellow nasal discharge in children can mean strep throat? Don't know if holds true to adults too? Does he have any other symptoms...Is it possible he inhaled something and it got stuck up there--I've heard of children sticking things in their noses and getting a nasty infection that way= yellow discharge. Can't see your hubby sticking things in his nose but maybe he accidentally inhaled something? I'd make an appointment with his primary and see what he thinks! Good Luck, let us know what it ends up being, I'm intrigued now :)

This could very well be allergies.

I've had a few times before too. I did a ton of online research and it seems to happen on the tail end of a sinus infection. It's always weird when it happens - thin, highlighter yellow, sticky, and mass quantities of it. I know you said he isn't sick, but I think sometimes sinus issues can have mild enough symptoms that you wouldn't necessarily realize you were that sick. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you are worried of course see your doctor.

Has your husband had any type of head or brain injury? I don't want to alarm you in any way as it is probably is just allergies. However, I have heard of cerebrospinal fluid actually leaking out the ears and nose in a similar fashion. Watch for blurred vision, headaches and dizziness. You may want to also see a dr just in case.

Have you guys ever tried the Neil Med Sinus Rinse? It works a little differently than a Neti Pot. I use it every time I have green or yellow sinus drainage. You would not BELIEVE the stuff that comes out! It works wonders for me and my family and has saved us several trips to the doctor.
