My four and half months girl is still having her tummy ache because of the burping issue. But when I give her 1 tb of GRIPE WATER twice a day, she gets back to normal and becomes a happy girl. Is it ok to give her gripe water twice daily continuously? If ok, in what quantity?

Gripe water is perfectly fine even for babies a few days old. If it works, use it. Follow dosing on the bottle. I think they usually recommend less than 4 or 5 ml or around a teaspoon.

I know that I added some gripe water to baby formula, back when my son was probably four months old. I did it with every bottle.... and it helped.. I did not experience any negative side effects. I don't remember the dosage, but it would've been whatever the instructions suggested. After a few week's I stopped using it, because I could tell that the symptons were gone.

I can't remember the amount, but my ped recommended it for my son and I used it everyday. If you can get the organic kind, and call the ped for the recommended amount.

You can try a probiotic. Jarrows makes a great one and you can get it from the health food store. It will balance her gut flora and put healthy bacteria back into it.

Gripe water is a good fix, but it sounds concerning that she is having tummy aches. It always comes back to food. Is she on formula? She could be having a reaction to it - maybe the lactose. Or, if she's breastfed it's something you are eating that's upsetting her tummy. For my daughter, it was when I ate tomatoes, citrus and dairy. Once I eliminated all of these foods from my diet, she didn't need gripe water or anything. She's been the happiest baby since (and I get more sleep :-))

Good luck.

I checked with my doctor about giving my just 3 week old baby girl gripe water due to extreme gassiness and she said it was harmless. If you look at the ingredients on the back they are all natural relievers of gas like ginger and fennel. If it is bringing her relief I would say keep giving it to her. I know other Mom's who lived by Gripe water and they never experienced any adverse reactions. Is your daughter breastfeeding, or bottle feeding? It could be her latch or the bottle being used. Or with my girlie who is now just 3 months it was dairy and once I cut that out of my diet she was fine. Good Luck.

Hi S.,

I'm not sure if it's ok to give Gripe Water twice a day continuously. I guess it should be fine to give it to your daughter ONLY when she has gas or tummy issues.

There are a lot of mixed reviews about Gripe Water out there. I gave it to my infant a few times (and it did help), but I switched to Mylicon because people said it was better. That worked well too. And of course, only give the recommended dosage for the age, as mentioned on the bottle.

If you're breast feeding your baby, perhaps you may want to eliminate certain foods from your diet, such as garlic, onion, potatoes, cauliflower and see if it makes a difference. Do eat food that's prepared fresh at home as much as possible.

Hope this helps.

Hello. My daughter lived off gripe water when she was a newborn until about 4 months old when the doctors finally realized she was dairy and soy sensitive and I was nursing and consuming dairy and soy. needless to say the first four months were hard, but she did well with the gripe water and we gave her the max allowed every day.
