Ok so my question is related to various health, skin & cleaning products, for the last 10 yrs. I have been a Quixtar IBO souly for the discount purpose & the fact that I liked the products....until I had kids w/severe allergies to unseemingly everything.

What I want to know is how all of you moms like your different health, skin & cleaning products that are also good for the environment, ie. Shaklee, Melaleuca and whatever else is out there, as I am not familier with what is out there.

What can I do next?

I think Shaklee is good for somethings, but I believe Seventh Generation is the best. I have tested thousands of natural and organic products over the last 14 year. I also agree that sometimes the best solution simple- like hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar!

There is a non-profit website called Skin Deep where you can view product's ingredients as well as their rating as far as how healthy they are to use. I use it for every product I purchase...it's time consuming, but at least I know my family is safe!

Here's more about it and a link: http://uggamugga.blogspot.com/2008/03/skin-deep.html

Hi S.!!!

I like a few of the other women that sent you responses LOVE MELALEUCA!!! They have over 400 products and are a safe and healthy alternative to the cleaning products that are offered in the stores today. They have everything from laundry soap to vitamins. The products are all super concentrated so they are also a better value...check out the website, www.melaleuca.com/ps. You can then see the products they offer.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message. Sometimes its hard to find the right products for ourselves and our loved ones. Melaleuca is an awesome company that gives back to their customers. Check them out.

Good Luck

IMO, the best green products don't even come under "big name" labels....

For cleaning, we use a solution of white vinegar and water for just about everything, including mopping the floors. Hydrogen peroxide and water can be mixed to use as a disinfectant. For heavier cleaning, like the oven or stubborn soap scum, a little Borax does the trick. I make my own laundry detergent with Borax, Washing Soda, and Fels Naptha. A cup of white vinegar added to a load of laundry is a natural fabric softener and odor neutralizer, and no, your clothes won't smell like pickles!

For soap, we use Kiss My Face brand Olive Oil soap. It's great on hands and body. We've used Kirk's Castile Soap in the past.

For lotion, I use pure Coconut Oil on everything from my son's diaper rash to my face to my husband's sand paper feet.

Hi Staci,
My name is A. and I have worked in healthcare for 12 years and could not be happier with Melaleuca. We started a few months ago and we are all healthier. I also have four children and one with allergies. He has done very well with these products. They have a wonderful skin line. Nicole Miller, the well-known fashion designer out of New York has teamed up with Melaleuca and created this awesome, all natural line. Melaleuca has been in business for 24 years and continues to grow!! I would love to share my experience with you. Go to my website and request information. www.family4good.com
Thanks!!! A. Erickson

Hi S.! Good question! I am probably going to get hate mail for this but if you are looking for green solutions, DON'T go with Melaleuca! I have been a customer for 5 years and have become more and more disgusted with their products. Almost everyone I know has quit Melaleuca. I share my order with 4 other people just to make the point value minimum.

If you want good green solutions, get the book "Green Up Your Clean-up" by Jill Potvin Schoff. It's a must have.
For facial care, Kiss my face has amazing soaps. I use Organic Essentials lotion for my face and also a product called Squalane. Kiss my Face and Tom's of Maine have great toothpaste.
Seventh Generation lists ALL of their ingredients on their products, something that Melaleuca refuses to do. Their prices are some of the best around too. go to www.vitacost.com for Seventh Generation cleaning products at a reduced price.
Message me if you have any questions!

S., I am a mother of 6. I have been using Shaklee's non toxic cleaning products for 15 years. They are awesome. I used cloth diapers for all my children and washed them with the Shaklee Basic L. Leaves no soap residue in the diapers and the all purpose cleaner Basic H is a concentrated biodegradable cleaner that you can clean just about anything with. Just mix with water. NO fumes, same ph as your skin. and great cleaning power. It is plant based. Shaklee has a whole line of environmental safe cleaning products called GET CLEAN. I love them and all their skin and nutrition products. Please feel free to check them out at shaklee.net/4downtoearth. or call me and I can send you some info and samples to try. ###-###-#### K.

I love Melaleuca. I have replaced all the cleaning products in my home and it seems everyone just feels better. I really love the fact that I also am doing something good for the environment (their cleaning products are super concentrated so you get like 6 bottles of laundry detergent in one little bottle). And lastly, not only can my family benefit from these products but I can make money by telling others about Melaleuca. So it's a win win situation. I would love to show you more. ____@____.com

Hi S.,

I love my Basic H2 from Shaklee. It is also one of Oprah's favorites. Yes I am a shaklee distributor.

I have a blog on 'going green'. Check it out at http://www.livegreeneveryday.com On that page is a video - call the Toxic Brew put out from an investigative reporter. Really shows why we need to be concerned about the chemicals in our cleaners and other products.

Also - i think it is the August post in that blog I give the government website to check out what cleaners you are using and the chemicals that are in them.

If you have any questions, of if I can help you in any way, let me know.
