Hi Moms,

My family and I might be relocating to Las Vegas. My husband might take a job in Summerlin and I am wondering about great family friendly places to live. Summerlin seems very nice. Are there great schools in Summerlin? What about Henderson? Please advise me the best place to live for a family with youngs kids that have excellent schools (and that is not too far from Summerlin). Thank you!

What can I do next?

OOOOOOHHH I'm sooo jealous!!!

I have wanted to move to Vegas for years....

My sister lived there for 25 years, raised her boys there and LOVED it!! I can't give you advice on where to live - but I would go out and drive around so you can get a feel for how the traffic patterns work...

I was just out there last month for my birthday- we stayed at Planet Hollywood - my parents were at Sams Town (they have an RV) and what SHOULD have taken maybe 15 minutes - took 30!! On a SUNDAY!! YIKES!!!

There are a ton of churches and A TON OF STUFF TO DO off the strip. My sister said she RARELY went to the strip. The guy who picked us up from the airport - NEVER goes to the strip - Las Vegas is more than the Strip!! ENJOY!! HAVE FUN!!!

Summerlin is a great place to live. Mountains Edge & Green Valley (part of Henderson) are also great places to live.

All schools in the valley are within Clark County, the only way out of that is private school or home school. Right now the Clark County School District (CCSD) is taking a huge hit. Recent news is they have fired all teachers in a handful of the under achieving schools, with the right to re-apply and the new principal will hand pick his selection. The displaced teachers will be relocated. As well, CCSD is about to lay off 2,500 teachers, increase insurance benefits and cut salaries by 7 or 7.5%. They expect classes may have as many as 40 students per classroom. Take a look at LVRJ.com, which is our local paper.

Vegas has never been known for having wonderful schools, but it is really getting bad.

I have found Catholic School is the cheapest, running an average of $5,600 per year. That is what I am doing with mine.

Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

Both Henderson and Summerlin are great family friendly places. If your husband is working in Summerlin you should concentrate there. Summerlin is in the far west side of Vegas and Henderson is in the far east. It is at least 30 plus minutes without traffic to travel from one side to the other. Summerlin has many activities for kids, parks with kid friendly pools, and playgrounds. Check out www.summerlin.com. I currently live in Summerlin and love it here.

PS I don't have young kids in school, but I hear good things about our neighborhood school which is Ober Elementary.
