Greasy Cupboards

I was wondering what you use to get the grease off your cupboards above and near the stove? I have tried good old hot soapy water and lysol kitchen cleaner. I have white cupboards that show all the dirt and for the most part I don't mind because if I didn't see the dirt I don't think I would ever clean them!

What can I do next?

I would be CAREFUL with the Mr Clean Magic erasers. They can take the "shine" off. I used them to take stains off my counter top, now I can see right where I used them.

Sorry I didn't read through all the responses but had to tell you that the Mr Clean Magic Erasers works wonderson my cupboards and stove getting the grease off. You will need about 2 of them because as the grease absorbs into the product it eventually disinegrates the eraser. But it works like magic!

Beware the magic erasers! Sometimes they remove the finish along with the grease. A little bit of ammonia with warm soapy water works. If the ammonia is a bit much for your nose, you can try Lysol brand Kitchen cleaner with a micro fiber cloth. Spray and wash also works! After you have them clean put a light coat of furniture polish or lemon oil around the handle area and edges of the cupboard, it will make the next clean up a breeze!

K.,

I use a citrus based de-greaser that works great. Alternatively you could use a mixture of water, vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice. Basically making your own de-greaser. You can find recipes for this on-line when searching using the words "home-made cleansers".

Good luck!

I like Mr Clean Liquid and the erasers but when I see alot of grease build up I usually make a thick paste with baking soda and water and it comes off great but leaves a film (hence the Mr Clean)

Hi K.---I like to use Murphy's Oil Soap on most of my cleaning projects. It works really great. You should also have success with plain old dishwashing soap, as it is designed to deal with grease. Do be careful with products such as Barkeepers Friend (which I happen to love when removing rust stains) because it is abrasive. So, depending on your cabinet surface, it may or may not be a good option...but it does work really well.

I also like to use a Dobi pad for scrubbing. It has a plastic surface so it is not likely to scratch.

Good luck. D.

I use the Bar Keepers Friend. Make a paste and go for it. There will be a film but I follow up with spic n span or windex if need be. I have used the magic erasers and they do work but they fromeldahide in them (sorry about the spelling it's been a long night/morning...) and some of them are not meant to be used wet (which is the only way they work well).

I agree with everyone else. Mr. Clean Liquid and magic erasers. You might need a couple to do the job since they tend to fall apart pretty easily with grease. But they work every time :). Happy Cleaning!

Good Morning K.!

I love the bright clean look of white cabinets!

You received lots of tips...Besides "It works" what things are important...like the fumes don't burn your lungs, safe for the environment as well as your home...what's the top criteria for you as you choose a cleaner?

Would love to hear what you think about those kinds of things.
