Greasy Carpet Mess

Yuck. My dog got into bacon grease last night and puked all over the carpet. It's bad enough to clean up ordinary dog puke, but this is greasy. I have tried "Out" Pet stain and odor removal and just ordinary dish detergent. I also have a Dirt Devil hand held carpet cleaner that extracts the fluid from the carpet Most of it is out, but there is still a stain. What else can I use to remove the stain.

So What Happened?

I ended up using the Spot Shot since it seemed to be mentioned by more people. It did a pretty good job of getting the stains out. I even used it on a couple of old stains with good results. Thanks to everyone that responded. I enjoyed reading about other experiences out there and I appreciate the sympathy that I felt coming from you all!

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Poor S.! I feel for you! Really! That is no fun! Aren't pets grand? I love mine but sometimes, oh my! Here's a story to make you feel better about your stain: When my son was in the hospital this winter my teenage daughter called up there to tell me that our dear little (Insert curse word here) Jack Russell Terror (oops I mean TERRIER) got into a walmart sack of year old easter candy, long forgotten in our closet, and she ate ALL the candy - wrappers and all - then puked and crapped ALL over our bedroom. Thank you for that welcome home!!! Alot of mess!!! It was more puke and poo than carpet let me tell you. It was awful. I swear by Resolve (It is the POWDER one sold at walmart that has a brush attached to it). It works for me really well. BUT, for grease I don't know it might work but just in case not, I went to my favorite little "help me" cleaning site. Here it is and there is stuff on there about getting grease out of carpet. Yay! Here's the link: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf466377.tip.html.
Hope you get it out! I am sure you will find something that will work! Good luck!!!

There is a product called purple power, it's sold at auto part stores (Andvanced) used to clean auto-parts etc.. It works amazing on any grease related cleaning chores. The great thing about it is it's cheap..gallon jug @$5.00 and concentrated. Terrific to dilute in a spray bottle to clean kitchen counters, stove and the best ever for bathtub and toilet too.

I have used it many times for various pet stains and grease on carpet.

Good Luck !

Try using some windex. My fiance used to clean carpets and it works for a bunch of stuff in the carpet. I have used it for everything from pet stains to crayon on a carseat. I hope this works for you.

Try Spot Shot. It is in a spray can with an orange lid and you can find it at Walmart.

I'm assuming that your carpet is light in color. Oxyclean has a great carpet cleaner that we use with our dog and the boy I watch who had really bad reflux. It helped our carpet from looking so bad and did get most of the stains out. Good Luck and God Bless.

Spot Shot always works for us. My husband trekked in oil from our driveway once... all over our WHITE carpet. Spot Shot cleaned it up, and you couldn't even tell it was ever there.

I had a stain on my carpet and used the new Spray and Wash with Resolve (for laundry stains) to remove it. I think I sprayed it let it set then scrubbed and repeated. Good Luck.

Wow, I sure don't envy you this chore. I have a dog and a cat and occassionally the pet mess happens. So far the best thing I have found that really seems to get stains out of my light colored carpet and the light colored couch is a Woolite product called "Pet Stain and Odor remover" in a spray bottle. It has cleaned regular vomit, hairball vomit, and blood from the dog going into heat the first time and she sat on our couch. UGH. It really worked for us. Since you have used the carpet cleaner to extract most of the liquid up it should work fine. We use the little Green Machine (Bissel) and it seems to do the job.

Hope you find something to fix it.

Hi S.,
My name is P. from Branson Mo. I have a teenage boy with a
dog & a cat. I know how much of a greasy mess they can make on the carpet! Let me share with you what I have found to take
out the greasy mess from the carpet, even on walls or furniture. And it's perfectly safe and will not harm the carpet, walls or furniture! I've used sol-u-mel straight from the bottle. Even if grease got on your clothes, you can put a capful in with the detergent & it does wonders for getting it out. E-mail me for more information. Give me your phone number, & I'll be glad to call you with more information!

With being such a busy mom, you need something that will do the job and do it quickly!

Hope to get with you soon,

I use Arm and Hammer Carpet spot remover. I get it at a local Carpet and Tile store. It is good for pet stains and also the odor. It is in a spray bottle. You shake it and spray it then blot and wait. If the stain is there repeat spraying and blotting. It contains enzymes. It has no odor when it dries and I have cleaned pet urine, dried paint, throw up and other fun stuff. Good Luck and take care.

I skimmed through to see if anyone else suggested this and didn't see it yet: Prell shampoo. My sister told me about it. She uses it to clean her husband's work clothes that get VERY greasy. I got a bottle at Wal-Mart and tried it on an ink stain I got from a hand stamp at a concert that 'ruined' a very nice light green shirt. I had tried many stain removers but nothing worked. I put Prell on it and rubbed it in then washed as normal and ....NO TRACE of a stain left (you can't even tell where it might have been) and it did not discolor the shirt at all. Now I will swear by it and have used it often on my son's stained clothes and it works EVERY time.

Good luck and let us know what worked!

In the laundry section of your store you will find large bars
of laundry soap, like Lirio or Fels-Naptha. This stuff is
cheap and it works. I have used it countless times to clean
grease and such out of my carpet. Stuff also works for pre-
treating laundry stains, sometimes better than Shout.
Just get a bucket of water and a scouring pad and get down on
your hands and knees and start scrubbing. If you have to get
a good layer of soap into the stain and let it sit for a bit
before you scrub it out.
It's a cheap and effective solution. Give it a shot.
Hope this helps. Dog spew is the WORST and bacon grease
dog spew is just evil!

Not sure what type of dish soap you used but Ivory is the best or if you can find industry liquid pot cleaner, mix with water and put in a sprayer, get as much grease as possable picked up with a paper towel, spray spots and scrub with a scrub brush your carpet. Then use your carpet cleaner.
This method works even with car greese that your husband or boys may track inside. I had to clean a whole side of our church because some youngsters did this. Hope this helps. Have a great smile-ly day

Hi S.,

I have the same problem with my pets vomiting from time to time. We have light colored carpet. I have tried everything and come to find that using a "Hot Shot" and Tide Lilac laundry soap worked wonders! A "Hot Shot" is a small device that heats about a cup of water in about a min. I am not sure why, but it works better that heating water in the microwave. I think it's normally used to heat water for oatmeal, tea, and to warm bottles. The Tide White Lilac laundry soap is new. But it worked. I have been in the pet industry for years and these products come out saying they can get out pet fluids, but it's a hoax they never work. In combination this does. I was really surprised. The water maybe hot enough from the Hot Shot to take that grease out. I just let is sit on the fluid for a bit then scrub the dickins out of it. I found my hot Shot at Walmart. Only $10-$15 I think. I hope this is useful to you. Good luck.

S. you might try a mixture of simple green. It works pretty well to remove grease and stains etc. The bottle will tell you the soluation mixture to make in a spray bottle. I use it often. The only thing I have not been able to remove with it is Candle wax. Bit candle lost it's side and ran over my stereo speaker on to the floor. UGH. I did use the iron and brown paper to get the wax off but the red stain is still here.

Good Luck to you and I understand Bad Dog Out dang Spot. (:

Hot Shot Carpet & Stain cleaner. You can get it at Wal-Mart or most anywhere else. It's in a blue can with an orange lid. I've used it at home on pet messes (it's all I use) and we use it where I work. I work in a mine and the mechanics are always coming in with grease on their shoes. I asked the cleaning crew what they used to get that out (it's black grease) and they told me Hot Shot. It works great. You sometimes have to do more than one treatment for really big messes but it works (works on crayon on couches too!).

Good Luck

You might use lemon juice, which citrus is a natural degreaser. And, it lightens things, but you may want to test a corner somewhere to be sure it won't bleach your carpet out.

Try Windex. I used this on several stains I had that nothing else had worked on and they came out pretty easily. One of the more helpful tips from my Mother in Law. :) Just spray it on and let it sit for 5 minutes or so and use the carpet cleaner like you would normally. Hope that helps! E.
