I'm trying to help a friend get some information on how to go about getting a grant to keep her optometry business going. Does anyone out there know of a person to help with this, or have information on where to look? She's pretty panicked, and I'm a bit out of my comfort zone on this topic. Thanks!

What can I do next?

You're smart! I did some research for a friend and about the only hard info I came up with was that a lot of them are scams. Hang in there and good luck to your friend.

Here's a link that might help: http://www.cfda.gov
It is the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. But the Small Business Development Center at Northeast Texas Community College advises, "Contrary to popular belief, grants of cash for businesses are virtually nonexistent. There are rare instances where a cash grant has been given for some highly specialized type of business or for some unusual situation, but for the great majority of business situations, there are no cash grants." Most stories of people getting money for businesses is in the form of government loans, not grants. Good luck!
