Hi Mamas,

I am in major need of some good health snack ideas. My little girl loves to eat sugar, sugar, and more sugar. I am really trying hard to find good things for her to eat, but sometimes she will not eat anything. She is very healthy and active so a little sugar to me is no big deal. But what kind of snacks do you make for your children? She is like her dad and eats no veggies. She does love fruit so that is already something that I give her. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

My 22 month old snacks on banana , grapes , strawberries , apples , clementines , raisins. Crackers such as Ritz , dry or with c/cheese or hummus. Bread sticks. I also buy veggie crisps. She has cheese cut into cubes with cuccumber , croissant , pita bread. Yogurt smoothies.

Hope this gives you some ideas

Have you tried making her a smoothie? I make them in the blender with fruit like oranges, apples, banana (frozen blueberries are especially good), plain yogurt and ice. The best thing is that you can add healthy stuff and they don't even notice! Blend in a bunch of spinach, and you can't even taste it. You could also do other leafy greens, or carrots or probably anything you want. As long as there is enough sweet fruit, she will probably love it.

My little man LOVES
- sliced low-fat cheese with whole wheat crackers
- toasted frozen waffles
- dry whole-grain cereal
- all natural fruit chews (great to take with you)
- "milkshakes" with low-fat milk and frozen yogurt (you can buy this as a mix)
- mini quesadillas (sneak some veggies in there)

My son is almost 2. He likes carrot sticks with veggie dip, whole wheat ritz crackers or graham crackers with peanut butter, string cheese or cheese cubes, I sometimes crush up banana and put it on a graham cracker with some cool whip which I also like :) My son loves pizza so I will take an english muffin or whole wheat pita bread and put sauce on that and he loves it. I don't melt cheese on it because I am scared of him choking, he still doesn't have all of this teeth and sometimes even I almost choke on melted cheese on my pizza!
As far as veggies go, whatever he doesn't like to eat by itself I just chop up really tiny and put into his spaghetti or mac and cheese and he never even knows he's eating it.

My 2.5 year old eats and loves:

Pudding *all kinds*
Yogurt *all kinds including whipped*
String cheese / American cheese / Shredded cheese
Toast with jelly
French toast (or french toast sticks)
Waffles
Strawberries (with or without whip cream)
Grapes
Grilled cheese (or just melted cheese sandwiches - can also add bacon into this)
Cantaloupe
Pears
Baby fruit (her baby brother gets this and sometimes she eats the bananas, pears, etc)
Peaches
Peanut butter on a spoon and sometimes on bread
Turkey or low fat bologna
Take V8 Fusion juice and give her that in a cup or freeze it and give it to her like a popsicle!
Hard boiled eggs / scrambled eggs
Cucumbers and ranch
Lettuce and ranch
Pringles (just tried these last night!)
Granola Bars
Muffins
Fruit snacks
Pretzel sticks with cheese whiz type cheese

These are her favorites right now! Not all are the healthiest but overall she eats well so I am not concerned.
