Hi! I,too am a "transplant" to the area. My son is 4, going on 20, and he's in preschool here in Marshfield. The public schools in Marshfield are the only ones in town. While I've heard good things regarding the Lutheran and Catholic schools in Springfield are good. My hope is that a decent private school will open up in the greater Spfld. area SOON. You may want to see if Schwitzer Methodist has a grade school, as I have a spot for Graham there in the Fall. Very academic....but also encourages kids to be kids! It is frustrating indeed.....no matter what, we have to be plugged in to any school we put our kids in! No wonder homeschooling is taking off! Good luck.

We used to live in Springfield, and recently moved to Willard, MO. I have had children in Espy Elementary in Nixa, which was great and in Jeffries Elementary in Springfield which was also great. We are in Willard now, and it is a woderful growing community just 6 miles northwest of Springfield. We love it. Willard has top ranked schools for Missouri and a brand new Highschool to open in the Fall. There are 4 elementaries a middle school and a junior high. It is a small community with lots of growth planned for the future. We both work in NE Springfield and it only takes about 20 minutes one way to work.

I don't know if you are still needing advice on this one, but my daughter went to kindergarten in S Springfield at Disney Elementary. It has a great report card, but I was very unimpressed with the principle there and his disciplinary ideas on 6 year olds. We moved after her kindergarten year to the far east side of Springfield, and we are now in the Republic school district. I love the faculty there and the enforcement of school policies, especially those concerning the safety of the students. I don't personally know anyone currently in the Nixa and Ozark districts, but I have heard great things about both, especially Nixa.

My girls have attended both Springfield and Nixa Schools. We moved to Nixa just for the school system. Nixa continues to win awards for its high educational achievement. Nixa also has strict no bullying enforcement and a high level of teacher/administrative committment to the kids. Ozark would be my next choice after Nixa. If you need a home to rent I know of a rental property avail mid May...just behind jr. high in Nixa, rent around $700 per month. 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 living. email me if you need more info. ____@____.com
thanks...good luck J.

There is a website that grades all the schools in the US. I am not sure of the address but you can get the link off of Oprah's website.
