Hey there again,

Posting this question again now: Is there a good hair stylist/salon for curly hair, and yet be affordable? I am looking to travel within North Richardson, north Dallas, Plano and Murphy-Garland areas.

Thanks much in advance,
D.

I went to Gary at State Thomas Salon in UpTown. I went to Gary forever (10 years or so). He was in Arlington for a long time, then switched to Dallas. I live in Mansfield, so with traffic I was driving almost an hour each way to get my hair done. Gary is wonderful, though. I think he's probably still there. It's a very small salon, but it's nice.

My hair is super curly; my high school students swear I must have African American blood in me, :) (and maybe I do). Most of the time I was going to Gary I wore it curly, and he did a great job with it. Near the end of the time I went to him, I started straightening it, and he did well with that. He is amazing with color! I haven't talked to him in a long time, so I don't know if he is still there, but the number to the salon is ###-###-####. Good luck!

ETA: It's an Aveda salon.

Ok, most hair stylists have NO CLUE how to cut or handle curly hair properly. I lived in Dallas for years and went my entire time there with bad cuts. I find that layers work, simple cuts are the way to go - and if you can find a stylist with naturally curly hair or a "black" salon that specializes in textured hair that is your best bet.

I too have curly hair and love my stylist! Her name is Shanaz and she's at the Regis in Collin Creek Mall at 75 and George Bush. I have been going to her for over 6 years. She always makes me feel welcome and does a great job. She styles my hair curly, with a round brush and straight and they all look great. Their number is ###-###-#### if you want to give her a try. Tell her J. I sent you.

I have super thick, super curly/frizzy hair. I've been going to Skip Rogers in Plano (at Salon Salons, corner of Custer and Hedgcoxe) for about 25 years now. He's great.

I, too, have naturally curly hair and am looking for a stylist. I recently went to the Styling Hutch in Plano and they specialize in curly hair (and cut using the Ouidad method). I wouldn't say I love, love, loved the cut but it was better than my usual going home in tears and sticking my head in the sink to wet it the minute I got home. Its fairly expensive. I'm very interested in other suggestions as well.

My experience with the Styling Hutch in Plano has been wonderful. They specialize in curly hair and the haircut is so much better than anything else I have ever had. I go about twice a year and just have a trim somewhere in between.
