Hello everyone. We are flying with our 11 month old next week and are thinking about taking a portable DVD playere. We usually don't let him watch a lot of TV but thought it might be a good diversion. I was wondering if anyone has had good luck specific DVDs for a baby his age. We have two Baby Einstein DVDs already. Thanks in advance.

Anything with the Wiggles always made my kids happy at that age -- lots of bright colors and music. Good luck!

Our daughter is obsessed with the Baby Einstein Shakespeare DVD. We also do not watch much tv with her at home (my New Year's resolution was when I am home and she is awake the TV is off - and I've stuck to it!), which is probably why she's so fascinated when we do turn it on. We recently took a plane trip as well followed by a 4-hour car ride. The portable DVD player was a lifesaver. We brought 5 Baby Einstein DVDs (you can get them at your local library) and she was set. I don't think you'll need anything other than that.

If you're interested in baby sign langage at all, "Treasure Chest" is a great, fun video.

We also like BOZ a lot, but didn't have it until the kids were a little older.

Baby Signing Time DVDs are great! And an added benefit is that your son might learn a few signs :) Our youngest son LOVES Signing Time.

One thing to keep in mind, you may not be allowed to use it while flying. Especially during take off & landing. They even make you turn cell phones off!
Check with the airlines before you bother to bring it along.

You have plenty of good suggestions - but I'll add one more. Those Baby Einsteins are great for his age. My son is 18 mos now, but he liked them. "Numbers Nursery" is his favorite, though - it grabbed his attention the most and he STILL likes it!

My son is Going to be one August 11th!! He loves music. We bought a video called Praise Baby. He LOVES it. We just bought the first one but there are several. If we let him he would watch it over and over, but if I put it in in the morning I can actually get ready for work without a big fuss from him. Hope this helps and good luck on your trip.

The first time my son, now 3, flew on a plane he was 13 months. He loved Dragon Tales (on PBS) and Teletubbies and did extremely well on the flight. (the flt was 2.5 hrs)

Good luck and have fun on your vacation!

because 11 mo. olds can't understand plot lines, we stick with the baby einstein. my 11 mo. old's favorites are baby mozart, baby neptune, baby monet, baby noah, and baby macdonald. we've tried others (disney movies, etc...because i also have a 2 1/2 yr. old), and these don't keep the younger one's attention.

happy flying.

Hi E.,

Boy have I got an answer for you, Braincandy! They aren't too big yet but these DVD's are amazing! My daughter loves them! There are 5, one for each sense. They are not even annoying for adults to watch, LOL! They show chilren and babies what your senses are for in a colorful eye catching way. I can't praise them enough. Go to braincandykids.com to view bits of the dvd's and to order. Please check it out, you will be so glad you did!

Blue's Clues is great and A Little Curious from HBO Family.

I took my son on a plane when he was about 2 and the DVD Player helped a lot, but not the whole time. My advice would be to have plenty of snacks and let him walk around when the Fasten Seatbelt sign comes off. It'll save a lot of aggrevation.

Good luck!

How about Veggie Tales or Clifford The Big Red Dog both available on DVD. Both are very good Christian Videos that children just love.
My son when he was small always liked "Thomas the Tank Engine", boys just like trains, I think it is something they are born with. I don't think it is on T.V any more but it is available on DVD.
How about a video about animals or maybe the movies "Nemo". Nemo has lots of color and fast action. With all the bubbles and schools of fish. Even the sharks are not bad.

You could also go to your local library check a couple DVD's out and look at them at home first. I know Crystal Lake Library lets you take out up to 10 DVD's at once and they have hundred of children/tot videos in the children section.

Have a Great Vacation,

Definitely a good idea!! I always take one on planes for my little one. Once we were stuck on the plane at the gate for 2 hours while they waited for a small repair to be done! That DVD player was a lifesaver. At that age, Wiggles are usually a big hit. I would go to the library and checkout a few DVD's or borrow some from somebody so they are new to him. I also always go buy a few new little inexpensive toys or books that he's never seen before and only get them out on the plane as needed (if he starts to fuss or wants to run around). Also, if you fly Southwest and can pick your own seats, try to sit by others with kids. They often entertain themselves!

Have a good trip!

One of the finds of the century are the Lori Berkner DVDs and CDs. If that name sounds familiar to you...she has some videos on Noggin during Jack's Big Music show and on some commercial breaks. My kids now 3 and 5 have loved her and her band for years, and kids glue in to her videos!!! You can get them at Walmart....her CDs are great for the car too. A definite MUST Have for your trip!!!

My daughter loved the Wiggles and Elmo's World. Also make sure you take plenty of snacks and something for him to drink as he will need to eat or drink something during take off and landing to release the pressure in his ears. Crayons and coloring books are great too- get the crayons that are triangle shaped as they don't roll!

Good Luck and Have fun!
