I am a mother-to-be and have some questions about the cost of daycare. Can anyone tell me how much daycare they pay for a newborn? Is it per hour or by the week? I would also love any references to good daycares in the Omaha, NE area. Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks! J.

Facilities: I pay $150/week for my 3 year old to be at day care 40 hrs/week. I like that a facility has multiple staff members and is open all the time. I like that there are lots of kids there for them to socialize with and that there are organized activities and curriculum. I don't like that there are 4-5 kids per adult (for his age range). I wish it more like 3-1.
I don't like in home daycares because I'm not comfortable leaving my child in a home with only one person there. There's no one monitoring what that person is doing all day with your child. I also don't like the fact that if an in home DCP goes on vacation or gets sick there's no one to watch my child. TONS of people use in home day cares, especially in the Omaha area, but it's not for me. Everyone has a different opinion on this.

I have a 4 and 2 year old. They are currently at an in-home day care that will be closing their business on May 25th to pursue other things. When my kids were newborn to 2 years old, I paid $135 a week for full time day care (8-5; M-F). Once my kids reached 2 years old, the rate went down to $105 a week.

Welcome to Omaha!

I use an in-home provider who is wonderful. I wouldn't recommend any of the centers I've had experience with, but I'm sure there's some good ones out there. I've always felt more comfortable with an in-home setting. The amount you pay will completely depend on who you choose as your provider. Care for a newborn is going to be, in most cases, more expensive than for an older child. Are you going to take your baby to daycare full-time or part-time? My provider gave us the option of paying hourly or paying a flat part-time rate. Shop around and go with your newly developing mother-lioness instincts!

Hi J.. I also do not like Daycare Centers (very well known centers). I worked at a couple different Daycare Centers and what I found is that they are very unsanitary and the ratios are way off. When there are too many kids per adult, it causes alot of biting and chaos, it is also stressful on the caregivers. Alot of parents at those Daycare Centers thought that it was a great place to take their children, but they didnt see the behind the scenes stuff. I couldnt take it anymore, so I started my own in-home daycare about 3 years ago and have been going strong ever since. As far as a curriculum goes in Centers, I dont neccesarily believe that a curriculum for a 2-4 year old is the way to go. I had two of my daycare kids start kindergarten last year and I also have 2 that will be starting this year and they are all extremly smart and have not had to go to any sort of pre-school what-so-ever. We dont do curriculum, we dont sit down and study, we play and that is how we learn. Children love to play and if you can incoorperate learning into it, I have found that is the way to go.

Good luck on your search for a GREAT Daycare for your baby. Overall with my experience, In-home is definately the way to go.

Well facility are way more expensive then Inhome childcares. Inhomes are better then facility's i think. I run a inhome childcare. I am reasonable. I did call around a couple months ago. and for infants to like 18 months is anywhere from 115 to 150 a week if not more. my rates are lower. What area are you in there are sites where you can find daycare's by zipcodes. I am off of 132nd and harrison. I have 1 opening avaible. I will have more when school starts in the fall. my little ones are gonna be going to kindergarden :(.. I love kids i wish i could open my own school lol.. have a great week. and let me know how your search is going..
