Good Bra Shop?

Does anyone know of a good shop to find larger sized bras? I'm in the 36 G/H range and I don't really want to have to order online only to have to send the majority back. I would love to find a shop in the Vancouver/Portland area where they have my size in stock and I could be fitted. I'm looking for regular and nursing bras and a good swimsuit with LOTS of support. Any ideas? (I tried Nordstrom already, they'll do in a pinch.)

The one Kaija Y recommended is the one I use. It's called "A Bra Boutique" at 122nd & Division. It's a relic of another time, but you get *very* personalized service (you'll probably be the only customer there) and I have always been delighted with them and their inventory. I was well-endowed before nursing; after that it became ridiculous and a lot of places "couldn't fit me" even though I'm really not that huge.

About prices--I know nursing bras are expensive, believe me. But the proper support you'll need to support and save those tissues is worth it! I make myself feel better by dividing the cost out over the 6 months I'll be wearing it each time (going on 2 years now). It's only pennies a day, and I'd rather spend a few more pennies for a good bra with a proper fit, and healthier breasts in the long run.

I was the same size as you when pregnant and/or nursing for YEARS (at least it felt like it;) and A Bra Boutique was great. The service was good, very personal as someone earlier said. No underwire and it was an awesome nursing bra. I personally did not like them once I lost my baby weight, too old ladyish, but honestly PERFECT for that bigger and hopefully for you too, short lived size. I am now a 34 DD and down to a size 10, but I was a 36H for a LONG time. Good luck!

I swear by Fredricks. I use the one in Vacouver Mall. The girls are great in there for fitting you. I used them even when I was pregnant and nursing. They stand behind their products and wwant you to be happy. You can get e-mail coupons and if they have any in the store they will give you those to use too. If you have any questions about fit they will measure and fit you too, just ask, don't be shy. They can answer if the swimsuits in the catalog will go up to your size or not. But if you order something out of the catalog and don't like it, they are really easy to return. Good Luck, C. B.

I'm around the same size as you-so would love to learn the answers to your questions! i must admit i tend to shop online. As far as a swimsuit i ended up buying a swimsuit that is bra sized by fantasie- as far as comfort goes- it is great, but...it is more a fashion suit than a sport suit, so it wears out fast. Total bummer, but for the benefits of the fit, i put up with the downsides. (i got the suit online)

good luck!

I sing the praises of the shop, Just Like a Woman, every chance I get. After my second baby, my large nursing breasts needed some major support. The boutique was recommended and I was beyond impressed and have been SO happy with my purchases. They have large nursing bras and not-nursing bras as well as specialty bras. You will be pleased, I am sure. The shop is on Macadam, but you can get more info about it at www.justlikeawoman.com. Good luck!

I am the same size as you are, and I agree with Kim V that fantasie of england is the way to go. They say that their sizes run large (to order F instead of G), but since you are on the cusp, and they don't run quite a whole size larger, I would advise ordering size G.
I order my bras from HerRoom.com, because their return policy is so great and their prices are better than most. Also, you get a 10% of your following orders.
I am going to trek down to Portland to check out Just Like a Woman, too. They look like they have everything.
Thanks for posting this question, M. - I bet you helped a few ladies with it!

Hi- Not sure if this will help or not--but you might try Catherine's (however I don't think they sell nursing bras). It is a woman's clothes store in the strip across from the Mall in Vancouver (If you are coming from Orchards area- You would turn right like going to the mall, but instead of going right into the mall, you go left at the first light and then take an immediate right. It is a little bit in on the left side).
Hope it helps.

i am a 38h and i have to say i have not found a more supportive or better fitting bra than the ones by fantasie (of england). i bought my first one at nordstrom 2 years ago. did you have someone go into the dressing room with you and, putting all modesty aside, have her measure, shape and adjust for you? i did and it was well worth it. now i get them from biggerbras.com. they have swimsuits too but i have yet to take that leap. i just purchased a suit from land's end that's supposed to support a DD. i know i'm no where near that size but i went from a 14 to a 16 hoping that will do the trick. if not i can always return at sears. try the fantasie bras, they have many styles to choose from.

i can't wait to see what the other responses are!!

NORDSTROM!!!!! All the way, baby. I've heard nearly my whole life about the amazing assistance and assortment of bras from this store, but I always thought they were too snoody and expensive...
I went with my mom a few months ago because she is a 34G and they had literally dozens for her to choose from. They have selections in all different types and prices.
The assistance is outstanding. Talk about a mom's day out :) They wait on you hand and foot, making you feel truly nurtured, and all my false impressions and judgments about them were quickly dispelled. I was so impressed, I bought one too, and it actually fit! (what a concept :)

Good luck!

I won't buy online...since it's taking too much of a chance.....they always vary in size and fit...so I need the help being fitted and finding the perfect bra...and If I'm going to spend 50 some dollars for a bra...it better be perfect. I usually do Nordstroms while pregnant because I didn't know of any other options...but

Just like a Woman

is supposed to have one of the best selections and service in Portland for Nursing Bras and larger size bras. I find bras from Fredericks fall apart...and Nordstrom is hit or miss with what they carry. I would be interested to know how it goes with Just like a Woman if you try them out.

I have them in my directory at http://portland.citymommy.com under "maternity clothes" you can even post a review after signing up. You will need the registration code: mommy

Let me know how it is...because if you have a good experience I think I might try there instead of Nordstrom. I'm still chubby from my baby (who is now two) so I can "get by" with lane bryant bras...but still prefer a nicer bra than those cheap ones.

Good luck!

Bravado is a good brand of nursing bras for large cup sizes. They don't look too thrilling but they are supportive and extremely comforatable...no wire!
I got mine at Portland Providence Lactation Clinic which is in the old trolley building at about 25th? and Burnside.
