Hi, all!

My parents recently moved to West St. Paul from South Dakota (Dad just retired; Mom's self-employed). My mom has taught piano lessons for 30+ years, and she would like to take on a few students here in the Cities. What she's not sure about is what to charge. What do you currently pay for piano lessons? Do you pay per week, month, or semester? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

If your mom is a professional piano teacher (ie: has an actual music degree and plenty of teaching experience), she can charge $25-30/half-hour. Students at the MacPhail Center for Music (which is probably the top music school in the Mpls) are paying closer to $34/half-hour...however, they are also working with top music instructors. There they pay for an entire semester up front. (16-18 weeks within the semester).

We are looking for a piano teacher for our 7 year old daughter and live in Eagan! Maybe she could be your mom's first student?

Seems to be a pattern here. We pay $20/half-hour for just the lessons we attend, and we pay once a month. That was a big jump from our previous instructor (this one is much better), but she hasn't raised her rates in the 3-4 years my sons have been taking lessons. We are in the SE metro.
