Glamour Shots?

My daughter will be eight this month. She is really into fashion, modeling, dressing up, posing, walking on a cat walk at home. She has makeup to play with, stuff for her hair etc. However, for her birthday, I'd love to have her expeience a photo shoot either as a participant or an observer. I'd love to take her to a fashion show or something like that. HOWEVER, I am NOT into fashion, and have no idea where to even look for such things. Any suggestions?

And another question - how old should a girl be before she starts eyebrow and/or lip waxing? (Sorry about the confusion on this, I am NOT interested in waxing now!!! Just wondering what age is appropriate. I did not wax until I was 35, so have NO idea when other women start this.)

What can I do next?

You can take her to glamour shots. They will do her hair and makeup and then take pictures of her that you can purchase, of course. It's fun. Maybe the two of you can do it together.

If you find a glamour shots studio near you that would be a wonderful experience for your daughter. They do the hair and makeovers as your sitting fee and may supply the outfits as well. I am not sure what outfits they have available for children so you may want to find that out ahead of time but they are very good and make you feel like a model. Be prepared to spend at least 200.00 on the pictures though as you will have a hard time picking just a few. I had this done several years ago and bought the portfolio page with all the poses, got 2 8X10, 3 5X7's and some wallets for 200.00. The sitting fee was 39.00 and I think you got 1 picture free with that. I don't know what their prices are now but they have probably gone up since I had them done. It was worth it though and I have great pictures. In fact my hubby was in Panama at the time and asked me to do them for his birthday and when I sent them to him, he couldn't believe how great they were and displayed them in his room for the guys to see. He was a very proud hubby. hehe. They do have specials around Mother's Day for mother/daughter pics that might be fun for both of you. Usually the special is one sitting fee for both you and your daughter. I don't know where a studio is as some of them have gone out of business but they do an awesome job if you do find one around. some other places do them as well but aren't as good of quality but may be cheaper.

Hi, I see you didn't get alot of help yet. I just wanted to say that I took my 3 year old granddaughter to Portrait Innovations in Lee's Summit, it sure seemed like a photo shoot, we chose a feather boa for her to pose with and she cheesed as much as she wanted while the lady took ton's of pictures! There are often picture package coupons that you can get that start about $9.99, we ended up spending closer to $80 because we wanted the entire shoot on a CD. I think it might be what you want, although they don't have the clothes and don't do hair or make-up if that's what you want. I think she would love this kind of shoot and she would feel pretty special.
As for the waxing, I don't know much about the lip waxing, I've never had to do that. I would encourage eyebrow plucking first, with a tweezer, the waxing can wait until she's in her teens, and I probably wouldn't tweeze too much before that unless she has a unibrow:) Let her be a kid with something to dream about instead of giving her everything when she's young or her dreams will get too big for you to help her with!
Another thought why don't you get a camera, put up a sheet for her to pose in front of put some music on and both of you can have some fun!!

Hi S.,
I don't know about the first question but I waxed my nieces eyebrows at 11 years old. I only did it once and she has never asked again because I think it hurt too much. By the way, I am a licensed cosmetologist so it wasn't because I didn't know what I was doing. I don't if you have ever had your lip waxed but I dread getting mine done and I'm 40. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I am shocked to think you would even consider letting her wax anything! You should think long and hard about encouraging her to dislike how her body is naturally. She is EIGHT YEARS OLD!!! Encouraging her in fashion and modeling will likely result in a poor self image and a young girl sexualized before puberty. I hope you change your mind.
