My daughter wants to start wearing make up. Her birthday is coming up in a few days and I would like to take her for a make up consultation where they will show her how to apply 'age appropriate' make up. Has anyone done this and do you have any suggestions as to where we should go?

When I was a teen, one of my mom's friends was a mary kay consultant, so we had a make-up birthday party for my closest friends and their moms. It was pretty fun.
Well how old is she? You didn't mention that.
All I know is: young girls do NOT need "foundation" or that kind of make-up.
Just natural is best.
Or minimal application of eye shadow or blush. No need for mascara at this age. Lip gloss.
Just in natural shades.
Lightly applied.
Or they will look too made up.
Girls, (looking back to when I was in high school), like to experiment with make-up too, or they apply TOO much make-up. Looking like a clown.
So to me, a young girl would need to know 'how' to "apply" make-up. It is easy to put on TOO much.
Just go to a Make-up counter... at a department store.
Look for a make-up person, that is older perhaps or has children... they will know what you mean by wanting her to look 'age appropriate' per your daughter's age.
Clinique is good. I use Clinique.
Natural shades and colors.
Good skin care too. Which would be good for your daughter to learn about. Ask them about that too.
It is also hypoallergenic.
Hard to answer this because I don't know her age. If she is 3 then no. If she is 13, because I wear Mary Kay, I would call my consultant. But if you want just go to any department store. You can go to any of the brands (Clinic, Chanel...) and get her started. Don't forget the skin care as well. You can never be too young to moisturize!
Clinique is where I have always gone even as a young girl. i am make-up challenged LOL so even now I go every couple years to learn the new tricks/styles. Love their products too, they never caused acne as a teenager
Clinique is probably the way to go. They are very modest and natural with their makeup and applications. I think they would do a great job with a younger girl, and their products are skin friendly. I would stay away from the MAC counter until shes like 25. ;)
I am a loyal CLinique fan and have been since I started my facial cleansing routine years ago when I was 11. I have never used anything else, I am 49 (ouch) and pass for early 30's.
My16 yr old daughter uses nothing but Clinique either.
Any department store counter sales will give you a consultation. Yes, I am biased toward CLinique but all of the good brands' reps will help you. My favorite department stores with the best staff are Neiman-Marcus and Nordstrom.
Also, if you have a Sephora store they are great for helping with consultations and application as well.

Macy's will do it. You just have to go and make appt at the makeup counter. This tim eof year it can be busy for them, with Prom. The other place I know will do it...and I think has amazing stuff is the Bare Essentials stores. If you have one in your area..they do amazingly!!
I would recommend Clinique, they'll give her a nice blush, lipstick/lip gloss and eye shadow and show her how to put it on. I've always found them to be very helpful. I love their face creams.
It depends on how old she is, most people do not really understand age appropriate even at many make up stores/counters. This is a huge thing in my opinion because too many girls do not know what to do. I have helped my neice who had NO CLUE, she was wearing black raccoon eyes at 15 and she now is wearing beautiful make up!! So, I would love to reccomend products to you and help but I would want to know her age, see a pic if possible. Honestly the best "foundation" to start with for a teen is the Aveeno Tinted Moist. with a translucent powder finish, soft pink/brown single shade or "marble" shaded eye shadow and brown (never black under 16) mascara and eyeliner. She should not need blush or lipstick if she is young lip gloss/chapstick would be perfect. Hope this helps.
