I have some shiny pink fabric i'm ready to make DD a cape. I can handle the cape and the mask, I'm wondering how to pull the rest of the costume together. a longsleeve T and sweats underneath??, It's cold here, or a dance leotard and tights? I"d lilke some sort of shorts or somethign maybe for modesty. I have searched the internet for the last hour and only Martha Stewart had anything at all. If there is any one out there in Mamapedia land, that can find a photo of someone else's homemade super hero costume i would sure appreciate a link. Oh and she is in first grade and i know this will be my last year making her costume so i'd like it to look less slapped together. i just need some inspiration that can help me get the idea in my head out!

thanks

What can I do next?

Make her look like a Mom add the cap and mask and admit that being a Mom often takes super hero capibilities.

She could push a baby (doll) in a stroller and maybe hold a toy vacuum.

They have full body suits at Discount Dance website. I just got my daughter a pearly white one (she wants to be a seahorse). I order it a bit big so it is not skin tight and it looks perfect. It would be perfect for a super hero. I do not have a photo of a super hero but I would check out Wonder Woman. She had some great accessory ideas and all you have to do is duplicate her look in the pinks and such your daughter wants. Then instead of calling her Wonder Woman, use her name for a Super Hero name, e.g., Glorious Gloria, Awesome Andrea, etc.

Enjoy! I love making costumes, and for the record, I do all 4 of my kids costumes and still put together the costume for my oldest (he is 11).

Leotard, skirt, tights. Or a dress with a belt and tights.

My granddaughter is going as Super Savannah.... Mom made her a cape, she's got tights and the letter S stitched to her leotard... also a dinosaur costume for backup.

I'm thinking cape with leotard and maybe a twirly skirt of tutu over it. Have her make (or tell you the design) a symbol, like a big S for Superman, and you can draw it with fabric markers on a bandanna (or other swatch of fabric) and sew it or pin it to the front of the costume or the back of the cape. She could get some sort of head boppers for her head instead of a mask or hood. She could also wear tall striped socks and tennis shoes. I don't have a picture, but I'm trying to describe the picture in my head I guess! Good luck!

No picture but this site advises establishing the base of your costume with spandex tights and a leotard, a unitard or bike shorts over bike leggings and a stretchy spandex T-shirt. I think tight fitting sweats would work as well, check out a thrift store for some.

You have the fabric for the cape, which it says "All you need is a rectangle or oval of material you can drape over your shoulders and tie, pin or Velcro around your neck."

Headgear--a mask, a helmet or a tiara work well. Add a wig if you want her to be a superhero with long, flowing tresses, which can be found on heroes both male and female. I think a tiara would be cute, you can find these at Dollar Stores along with the mask.

And boots, which are traditional for superheroes both male and female.

Dance leotard.... and tights.
Look for a long-sleeved leotard. And long tights with the feet on it.
Over that, she can wear shorts. Those stretchy gym type shorts or 'bike shorts' which Gymboree has. www.gymboree.com
Then her cape.
And she can wear rain-boots on her feet.

Look on E-bay. They have all kinds.

I'm making my daughter a Storm costume from X-Men. it's out of long sleeved white shirt and white pants, and i'm making the shoulder Xs out of felt. I bet you could make a cute Superhero emblem, maybe with her initial, out of felt and then sew it on the front of the shirt. It probably wouldnt even take that long.

My 3.5 yr old is going to be Superman. I got Gerber's brand Training pants (they're thick, they're plain white, no lace, no flap/hole in the front) and dyed them red. Superman shirt is a denim type color so I may just put him in jeans with the red training pants on top. If they had leotards that fit him in a denim color I would buy those.

If I were you, yes I'd do a long sleeve T with some of your shiny pink fabric sewn onto the cuffs with a big letter or symbol on the front. Sweats sound like they'd be too bulky. Most if not all superheroes wear tight-fitting clothes, so I'd go with Skinny Jeans or leggings of some sort. This girl's leggings look cute, plus add some really long socks for your DD so they look like tall boots? http://mychiclife.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/photo1-7... Do they make footed pajamas for 1st graders? This looks very very simple for colder weather (although I prefer my method of doing the Superman underwear. This actually LOOKS like underwear. Mine looks like Superman red plain 'costume'). http://www.benett.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/superher...

It looks like this girl just used pajama bottoms and a skirt-like tutu. Looks good to me! http://designergirl007.typepad.com/.a/6a010536fc###-###-#...

I would do a leotard and tights. Last year I made my daughters Wonder Woman costume, She was only 21 months so she wore a red onesie with the WW on it, and I made a blue tutu with white fabric stars, then I made the arm cuffs and head bands, and she wore the superhero baby legs the one day of Oct. that it was cold enough for them. It's still usually in the 80s here on Halloween so we don't have the issue of making their costumes warm enough.
