Girl Movie for Mom and 9 Year Old

My sons and husband are going on a camping trip this weekend. I was looking for a good "chick flick" to watch with my 9 year old daughter. Any suggestions? We are pretty conservative, so I'm looking to avoid anything too teenager-relationship oriented, or too grown up for her. Thanks mamas.

What can I do next?

What about shirley temple movies ?
Look into older movies like Wizard of Oz,
Or Anne of Green Gables.
Pippi longstocking is always fun , but it really translated into movie form BADLY , it's sweedish or something , so it's dubed and it's a BAD dub.

But My 9 yr old girl still thankfully likes Pooh , so I'd likely choose those for her

Ever After, Nim's Island, I agree with Pippi Longstockings and Anne of Green Gables, loved those at that age! Also loved old musicals, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Singing in the Rain, Fiddler on the Roof

I second Ramona & Beezus....such a cute movie! In case you haven't heard of this, you can check out movies for appropriateness at www.kidsinmind.com and they let you search by rating in Sex/Nudity, Violence/Gore and Profanity (0-2 are good ranges for her age).

Harriet the Spy is another good one. Have a great girl's night!!!

Soul Surfer was really good. No swearing, very family oriented girl. They show her loving family and the support they provided alot, her Christian base in her life (and how her mission trip altered her perception of her injury, etc). The part with the actual shark attack is very very quick, not drawn out and if you aren't "watching" for it, you might actually miss it.

Its not about the attack really...its about her journey and how she continued to live her life. How she perservered. Inspiring really.

Have fun!

Absolutely go with Soul Surfer! I loved it and my 5 year old loved it...which isn't too say that it is juvenile but that it has wide appeal. Also, as NBinMN said, the shark scene was extremely mild and the general theme and feel was just very inspiring and heart warming.

Nim's Island

Good movie for a girl this age.
I liked it too.
My daughter who is 8, likes that movie and watched it more than once.
It is not teen oriented and not too grown up for this age, at all.
Really good movie.

And for old time movies:
Mary Poppins

I LOVED Uptown Girls with Dakota Fanning and Brittney Murphy. Very very cute movie. The dad dies but they don't play it up all that much. My kids love it too.
Let's face it....every Disney movie has a parent die. :)

There is a horse movie out there called Dreamer. It looks really good and based on true story. It is about 5 years old so maybe you have already seen it.

Was also going to recommend Anne of Green Gables. ;)
The Parent Trap (original)-still love watching that one.

Some others my DD and I enjoy watching together:
Spirited Away
Wizard of Oz
Return to Oz
Alice in Wonderland-this one: http://www.amazon.com/Alice-Wonderland-1985-Natalie-Grego...

We recently watched Nim's Island and Kit Kitridge...while she loved them, I found them painful to watch...lol.

Have fun!
