Does anyone have any recipes they like for "gifts in a jar" for soups or snack mixes? (I'm not looking for cookies, cakes or dips.) Ideally I'm looking for low fat and low fiber because of a special diet my dad is on for recent medical issues. However, I have other people I want to make them for so any of your favorite recipes would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Hi L.,

Below is a link for "gifts in a jar". It's $1 and goes to help a child with autism. I "met" his mother on mamasource and enjoy following her blog about her son Eamon. I hope the link works; if not, let me know and I'll try another. Scroll down a little to see where to order.

The sites you've already recieved sound promising. I've only ever giving Hot coco mixes.
It sounds likeyou are looking for dry mixes but homeade Salas might be fun. I don't have a recipe but i would think you could google one.
Merry Christmas.

Hi,

This is a recipe we did this year for Christmas, called Mama's Spice Pancakes. I put the ingredients in a ziploc bag and put that in a paperbag I had my kids decorate. I then punched holes in it with a hole punch, tied a holiday ribbon through it and attached a tag with the wet ingredients and instructions. We gave them to friends, teachers, neighbors and everyone seemed to love them. Enjoy!

Mama’s Spice Pancakes

2 eggs
2 cups flour (all purpose)
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons veg. oil
6 tsp. Baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tablespoons Sugar
1 cup applesauce
Pinch of ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. ground cloves
¼ tsp. ground nutmeg

Mix all ingredients together. Grease skillet or griddle. Heat to medium heat. Flip panckaces when first side begins to look bubbly. Feeds four starving children under the age of 6! (that’s what it says)

HI L., one of the snacks I enjoy that is good for my diabetic diet is raisns, sunflower seeds and soy nuts (salted...I can't give up everything!). For a small bowl it's two tablespoons of the sunflower seeds and soy nuts to one tablespoon of raisns...sweet, salty, full of protien! I hope this gives you some ideas! Merry Christmas!
