Gifts for 11 Year Old Boy

Hey everyone,

I need to buy 2 small gifts for an 11 year old boy. This is for a child that is in an orphanage so he really doesn't have many possessions to call his own. So while the gift needs to be small, I still want it to be special for him. My son is much younger so I'm not sure what an 11 year old boy would like. Do any of you wise Moms have some suggestions for me? Again, it needs to be very small (not necessarily inexpensive) but small, because someone has to pack them and travel with all the gifts we will be sending.

Thanks so much for your help and God Bless!!

So What Happened?

Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for your suggestions.
V B - you're absolutely right about giving items with no batteries. I too have been to a couple orphanages in Russia and have learned a lot. I was happy to find some small items at Target that I think will be great. Since we had to keep the items small - they specifically said nothing as big as a ball- since one person will be traveling with all this stuff, it was hard to find items. But I was very pleased with what I found.
Thanks again everyone!

We provide gifts for an orphanage in Mexico every year for around 50 kids. In doing this, I have learned a few things. Make sure that anything you take does not need batteries. They play with it for a few hours and then it is no good to them anymore because they have no way to replace the batteries. Even if you take extra batteries, it will eventually run out and they will not be able to play with it. A few things I can suggest for a boy of that age are a watch, soccer or football, book (in the correct language), sunglasses, baseball hat, action figures. Good luck and thanks for participating in this type of thing!

Well, you said nothing about where the orphanage was so I will go with one that is in the United States but the information from the woman in Mexico would apply to any orphanage outside the U.S. We got some things together for a place near Bosnia and they specified no batteries.

If the child lives here, I would still try for no batteries because you don't know whether he has the ability to replace things and if you give him a CD player, can he afford CDs? Skateboard (not tiny but can be stowed under a bed or in the corner), frisbee, baseball, football, basketball. If you're not worried about money and space is not an issue, bicycle, that age one of those trick bikes with the pegs on the front and back wheels. Gift certificate to Wal-Mart so they can get whatever they want.

If price isn't an option, than the Nintendo DS as mentioned earlier would be perfect. It's about $129, small and all the range with my 10-year old! She plays it all the time and shares games with the 11-year old boy across the street. Trust me, if this child doesn't have much, this is an awesome gift! Educational game cartridges can be purchased as well.

Hi A.. We got a couple of boys in our family (this past Charistmas) a mini radio. I think it came with the ear piece. I don't remenber the details much, but I know for sure we got them at Wal-mart. Around $10.00-$13.00?? They were both for a 13-yr old and a 10 year old. I really don't think you could go wrong with one of those. Hope this helps:)

I recently got MP3 players for my kids. The Sansa Shaker, they carry them at most Wal Marts and are only $35, they come with a small memory card that holds plenty of songs and earphones...they can listen via speaker or earphones...a good site to get music is www.gomusic.ru (do not put .com on the end) songs are only .18 cents a piece

A., I have a 12yrs old and for the past yr or two he has been all about saving money and getting giftcards to gamestop, target, walmart, etc. He is into games alot so he save for what he wants and then trades them in when finished. I know for some this is not meaningful, I thought that too, but he really enjoys receiving them. The other thing you can do, is find out if he likes a sport and but him something related to that. Good Luck!

The 11 year old boys I know like things like remote control cars, Pirates of the Carribean stuff, Transformers, reading. Maybe a Nintendo DS or a Gameboy with some games.

Does he like to read? Maybe a Harry Potter Book or one like it, like Eragon or one of these. I found these on the Barnes & Noble children section for his age range 9-12, I have heard good reviews on a lot of them:
