Hi lovely mamas! My friend/neighbor is turning 50 tomorrow, and I'd like to get her a little something. She has everything she wants or needs, so I'm just looking for a little something to commemorate her big day. She loves wine, and I have thought of maybe getting her a gift certificate to her favorite winery, but I wanted to see what you ladies thought first.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your great suggestions! I ended up going to our local winery and found something that she would love for two reasons. It is a chocolate-dipped bottle of cherry wine. I hadn't seen anything like it before, and had to ask if it were actually a real bottle of wine, because it looked like it was all chocolate.

I was watching her house/dog/kids while she was away with her husband for the weekend, and I left it on her counter this afternoon. I also wrote more in her card than I normally do, telling her how thankful I am that our kids became friends, which brought on our friendship. I only have a few more weeks to go before I turn 50, and I didn't want to go too crazy on a gift because then she probably would feel obligated to do the same for me.

Anyhow, thanks ladies!

Oh you are being serious. I thought perhaps you were looking for a gag gift...

I would think that if she is into wine, then a winery gift certificate to her favorite winery (if she has a favorite one, then you KNOW she is into wine) would be a great idea.

I just turned fifty. The most special gifts were from two friends. One friend made an acrostic poem out of my name, which was very meaningful and memorable, while another friend put together photos of us and our mutual friends as well as a list of 25 happy memories and 25 wild and crazy plans for the future. These were great, great gifts that will last another fifty years!!
The gift certificate, of course, would be appreciated, too.:o)

Stick to what you know she enjoys. Perhaps a Puligny Montrachet or Chassagne Le Montrachet to celebrate her special day.

Put a little gift on her doorstep (sm box of chocolates, steaming thermos
of her favorite coffee, a danish or scone from a nearby coffeeshop,
matching red mug that say "U Rock 50" (write it yourself).

Text her a birthday message that says something lovely and uplifting like
you look better than ever.

Send her a small bouquet of roses (or drop off some from the supermarket.

Get her a gift certificate from that favorite winery (hopefully you can buy
it online).

A warm throw so she can cozy up and read a favorite book.

Write her a nice card w/some loving sayings.

Take her out to a nice dinner & share a nice bottle of wine. Give her a small gift of jewelry (it can be costume or some small fine jewelry.

I think that is a nice idea! One of my neighbors turned 50 a few years ago, and someone got him a bouquet of suckers. The banner on top of the bouquet said "50 Sucks". I thought it was cute. Of course then you have 50 suckers to eat.

You could put together your own gourmet basket of goodies..
A theme or something.. like the wine. .that would be fun..

As Cost Plus, they have these mini stainless Steel shopping carts that you can put things into.. Example.. I have done one lined with a red/white checkered kitchen towel. then added a small bottle of red wine, pasta, sauce , parmaesan cheese and maybe some chocolate.. I don't nec buy all items from Cost Plus.. the idea is a dinner for two within the shopping cart.. it's always a hit

the other thing I have done is a do a baking theme for a friend who bakes a lot..

How about you take her to the winery? I just turned 50 in December, and at this point in my life, I prefer time spent with my family and friends to material things. My husband and friends surprised me with a fabulous dinner at a beautiful restaurant. It was a wonderful evening! I bet your friend would love to celebrate this milestone with you at a place she loves! She'll always remember it!

I turned 50 last year and what I would have enjoyed is being taken out to lunch. However, if you want to buy her something a thoughtful gift would be nice. Something pretty for her house. I, personally, would hate a bottle of wine but I'm not a drinker. Also, flowers are nice.

It's fun to do things of 50. 50 gold coins. 50 postage stamps. 50 flowers. or 50 of her favorite candy - like 50 kisses. Have a favorite snack? - 50 snack bags of it. Or 50 of something that fits her personality or interests. If she draws - 50 colored pencils. If she likes to garden, you could buy 50 seeds to plant. A gift card worth $50. If she likes craft stuff - 50 cool beads.

I often make a 50s collage! You find pictures in magazines or on the internet that say 50 - a jersey with 50, I-50 sign, 50% off coupon, 50mph sign, 50 cent, etc. Ideally, it should contain 50 pictures of 50. But that's challenge. I've done collages like this and then framed them for them on big birthdays - 30, 40, 50, 60. It's really fun!

I am late but I would love to have a friend like you! I do not like gag gifts. Save the money on things like 50 lollipops and just put the $15 on a Starbucks card.

But, for myself (years from now) I would like to get treated to a restaurant of my choosing, a road trip to a place about 1.5 hours away so we could chat or a spa gift certificate.
