Gift Idea for Family That Is Moving

Hello,
My daughter's close friend is moving with her family out of state. They have been good friends (and I am good friends with her mom) for the past 4 years. The girls are 8. I'm trying to come up with a meaningful goodbye gift, nothing extremely time-consuming to make, but something thoughtful, because our families have been close and will hopefully keep in touch.

Anyone have an idea for me? Thanks!

What can I do next?

What about some nice stationary and a bunch of stamps so that she can write her friend and send pics in the mail and what not?

when i moved, the best gift anyone gave me was journal. it was a simple book with lined pages. They took a polaroid camera and went to each of my co-workers and had them write a personal note to me along with thier contact info, email, phone, mailing address. in this case you could use a digital camera and get her friends an classmates to sign it, like an autograph book.

Charm bracelet. My little 10 yo neighbor had her BFF move when they were 8 and they've kept in touch by sending each other charms for the bracelets they got for each other. There are so many charms out there that it will be easy for them to think of each other when they go to any store that sells them.

How about "best friend" necklaces? I used to have them when I was that age, and it was one of those heart ones that is in two halfs, one for each girl.

Hello, we recently moved and we rec'd some very nice things that we truely apprieciated. One was a cloth with the state on it and inside it had all the landmarks. I'm framing it and hanging it in our pantry. I guess it's almost like a screen print. Another friend purchased my husband and son baseball shirts from Kohl's of our local team and she bought me my favorite cookies from our bakery. How about a framed picture of the two girl's or your family
in a nice frame that reads "Memories" or "Friends". Again, Kohls, Target, Walmart and JCPenny's have great frames. What do you have locally that they can't get where they're moving to. And I appreciated the cards with the wonderful words written inside. Anything you'll do, they'll love!

A souvenir box - include things that were special during your years together. If you and mom enjoyed coffee at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts together include a coffee shop mug and a gift card. If you went to the beach/pool together throw in a beach towel and sunblock. Include photos and copies of programs from school concerts/activities that you attended together (color copy of programs with photo attached so you can keep your originals). Research destinations that are halfway between both places that you could meet in the middle for a long weekend or overnight and include brochures, copies of websites about the area (assuming where they're moving in less than a day's drive that you could both drive half day from each home) mapquest direction from her new address to the destination and to your home. Make a coupon that's good for "2 nights accomodations at ______(your family name) Inn" so they know they are welcome to come stay as guests at your home. How about a gift card to a bookstore so your DD's and you and mom can read books "together" and go online. If you're not on facebook then learn about it write an "intro to FB" primer so you can both be friends online and allow your DD's to use your walls to stay in touch.

Good luck mama - this is a tough one, I'd be so sad to see my BFF move far away...!

We moved when my daughter was 6. I took photos of the two of them in many stages and framed them with cute frames and gave them both to my daughter and her friend. My daughter is now 15 and they both still have them! Her friend made her a scrapbook telling the story of their friendship in her little 6 year old words. Beautiful.

How about giving each girl a matching, blank, scrapbook? Gather some photos of them taken over the years (make duplicates of each photo so each girl has the same), and mementos (take out menus, napkins from their favorite restaurant). Go to a scrapbook or hobby supply store and buy a few inexpensive small embellishments (did they go to dance class together? Buy a scrapbook sticker or embellishment of dance shoes, for example) that represent what the girls liked to do or talk about. Get scrapbook stick-on letters and swirls. Some afternoon or evening, order a pizza and let both girls make their scrapbook together with the supplies you have gathered. Make sure to have scrapbook tape and markers. You won't have to do the work other than duplicating some photos and buying some supplies, and the girls will have a wonderful time making their memory books.

My daughter loves her picture frame with the youth group picture in it the church gave her. I really appreciated the gc's to Cracker Barrel and Golden Corral.
My other daughter and her friend each swapped a necklace, so we have one of M's and M has one of J's. J is 13 now and still tells me when she is wearing M's necklace. THe girls were 10 when M moved.

You could make or buy some stationary set/kit. You can buy a simple plain paper set and your daughter could use some stamps on it.

Maybe some sort of BFF necklace or charm where your daughter has the matching one?

Or what about a picture frame that your daughter can decorate and put in a picture of the two of them together?
