Gift for 1St Time Grandparent?

A coworker of mine, who is also a good friend, will be a first time grandmother at the end of this month. We would like to get her a gift. She's a fun, peppy, pretty lady, not at all an "older granny" type. :) Her daughter lives several states away, so she won't see the baby very often. Can you help with any ideas?? Thank you!

Hello, I am a young looking grandma too. When I worked at Hobby Lobby they had in the cards and party section books. One I sort of glanced at when I was working that department was a book that a grandparent can sort of tell their life story to leave to grandchildren. I wish I had started one of these years ago and to this day did not get it.If they do not have it I would look at Hallmark stores or maybe Mardells as Hobby Lobby owns them. I think that would be the greatest book. It is sort of like a baby book for babies but it is for grandparents. Good luck finding one, maybe call around first. Good luck G. W

I would suggest a set of webcams and microphones for their PC's, one for her one for her daughter. That will allow them to talk and see each other over the internet whenever they want. I did this for a friend of mine who's parents were in another city and they love it. If you go to Best Buy and tell them what you are trying to do they will tell you everything you. There inexpensive online services that will let them talk and stream video from the web cam. Snipe is one of them but there are several... just be careful when you are searching for them online. The term webcam tends to pull up all kinds of inappropriate websites.

how about a digital picture frame? those are so cool and that way she could have pictures of her new grandbaby running all the time on her desk.

Pictures!

She is going to want to take a lot, brag and show him off, etc. I would look at options that would help that. ;-)

Does she do email with the mom? Can she print off pictures mom will send her? Does she have a camera to take her own pictures? Does she have enough film or memory cards for it?
You get a Sam's Club or Cosco type of gift card to pay for printing pictures!

I think the ideas you have already gotten are awesome. I really wish someone had gotten my mom a pack and play and some other things to have at her house. It's always a bit of a hassle to bring it with us or find someone to borrow from.

We got my Mother in Law that canvas bag with the pockets for the pictures and she LOVES that thing. She takes it everywhere and gets to take along pics of our daughter.

I guess it really depends on how much you want to spend, but these are the 2 ideas I would have given you as well. :-)

EDIT: I'm editing my response to respond to another persons suggestion about the webcams. I think that's an awesome idea. We use ours a lot because Grandma is in Florida. Both of them can sign up for an MSN Messenger account to use the cameras. It's free and lots of fun for Grandmas!

You can't go wrong with a picture frame. There are many that have cute 'grandparen' wording. Books are great too - I have seen quite a few that are about grandmothers - some with wisdom for the grandma and some for the two to read together.

Whatever you do will be appreciated, I'm sure!

hallmark sells a neat leather "envelope" that is the perfect size to hold pictures. And, it's thin and light so easy to keep in purse. It comes in a bnuch of colors - black, brown, red, baby blue, pink, etc.

My mom's coworkers and friends got her stuff for her to have at her house for my daughter. Some chipped in on getting her a pack and play, and let me tell you, that has been a life saver. It is not easy for us to always pack our, especially if it is just my daughter and I flying to see my parents. They also got her some sort of keepsake book for her to write letters to my daughter as she grows up to give to her one day. I hope this helps.

if you are all going to chip in, maybe a digital picture frame that she would be able to put on her desk and that way she can see her pictures all the time, even if she can't see the baby. I have 10 grandchildren and I have their pictures all over my desk and it always lifts me up!
Merry Christmas

You've received some great ideas - especially about stocking her house w/baby stuff. It makes traveling with a baby so much easier when everything is already at the destination.

Another idea is a gift card for American or Southwest Airlines. Then she can go visit the baby herself and have a little help with the cost of a plane ticket.

My mom's co-worker bought her a canvas tote that has clear pockets for pictures on it. It says something like "Grandma's brag bag" at the top. My mom keeps the pictures of my little daughter updated, and brings the bag everywhere she goes :)

I am a grandmother, and I remember that I kept things for the gd's to play with, to wear in case my daughter didnt bring something that the girls needed.
I also have one of those bags that I carry with my craft supplies that hold the girls pictures where I can see the pictures all the time
If she enjoys writting a journal, to put down her thoughts that would go to the grandchild one day

not sure how many are pinching in or how much u may have, but you can also get a cam recorder where she could give to the daughter/son to take pictures and send them to her every month to see how much the child has grown and what it doing.

album would be nice to hold her pictures, also a grandmother brag book that can go into her purse to show off those pictures, it a grandmother priveledge to show off those pictures, LOL..

You have received alot of neat gift ideas, so please let us kmnow what u get... Please tell this lady Congrulations for me from one nana to another.

My husband's parents are very young...his mom could not wait to be a grandmother so last year we thought it was important to get her something great. We had a blanket made with the cutest picture we could find of our daughter. She loved it! She is always wrapped in it when we go over there and it looks beautiful. We ordered it online and when it arrived I wasn't sure I wanted to give it to her it looked so great. You can also add text. In the top corner it says' Grammy's Angel.

They have those picture frames where you can put pictures on it like a slide show. Maybe several of you can go in together to get her one. It is something she could keep her new grand babies pictures on.

I don't know how much you are wanting to spend, but what about one of those digital picture frames so she can see multiple images of her grandbaby on the same frame? You can get them at Target, Best Buy, etc...
They run anywhere from $60-$100+, but it's an idea...

depending on how much you are wanting to spend... i'm sure she would love a digital photo frame. if there are several people buying maybe ya'll could all chip in something and share the cost of it. but they are wonderful gifts. they her daughter can email her photos of the baby and she can download them into the frame. i'm going to get about 10 of them so i can download diffrent pics of my kids growing up. it'll cut down on the number of frames on my walls and i'll have all the pictures i want on the walls.

A couple of years ago for Christmas we got our moms bracelets that hold pics. So, you can print index prints and put the pix in the bracelet. They are cute. I'm not sure where you can get one, but you can probably look it up online.

One of my really dear friends became a grandmother as well. We all went in together and bought her things for grandma's house like towels, wash cloths, baby washes, a pack & play & a few toys. It was a life saver too since her daughter lived far. It cuts down on the things her daughter will have to bring for her and certainly make the family feel more welcome.
